Does the gasket look damaged (or partially missing)? Unless the door hinges were mounted too far to the left, that's about the only thing I can think of that would cause a gap there. Just looked at mine and the gasket is to the right of that cutout by at least 1/4", if not 3/8".

He bought it used and they said sorry, if you were the original purchaser we'd help. To me it's a safety issue and should be taken care of no questions asked, fire hazards are no joke, just got off a raffle thread on another forum for a guy who lost his home to a fire(not that a wood stove caused it, I don't know the cause, but sad none the less).

It appears the door was mounted to far to the left.
I'll try to get some pictures of another forum.

Wow... This is my third Englander and I've always had good service. Had my first NC13 that was 2 years old and discovered that the top wall where the gaskets seals off was bent inward during heat ups. They replaced with no problems, minus logistics issues. Then got the big brother. I wonder whats going on here lately, doesn't seem quite right.

Is this a somewhat normal thing you've heard of.
Somewhat easy for a handy guy.
I suggested welding a plate on the inside(mind you I've never seen the inside of one before), then filling the moon shape with weld as needed, grind flat.
Not bad if you have what you need to do it. But the question begs why should you have to. Another question what happens if there was ever a problem, would this void any liability, would your insurance company walk away from covering a claim because the stove had been modified.
    Inquiring minds want to know.

Not "normal" no, especially on the 30, but it is at least the third Englander stove I've heard of the with the hinges seemingly welded on wrong just in the last 6 months.

I kind of doubt the hinges are off. There really is no room to move them left without going into the radius of the corner.

The tech at the factory told him he could cut the hinges off and reweld them on as an option, seems that if someone can mess something up they will sooner or later :(.
What a bummer, wonder what's happening, I'd think the door/hinges would be in a jig of sorts to prevent this type of thing from happening. I guess if the jig was only on the right side and the door/hinges were not pushed tightly up against the jig this could happen.
As I'm thinking out it it seems that if you know of at least 3, there must be many more, and those are the ones that made it past "quality control", seems there are some things at the plant that need to be fixed.

Yeah seems a little odd that the Englander employee that usually hang around these sites has been MIA too...

Interesting on the above statement. Care to divulge the gents username? I have zero beef. Just interested.

Sometimes I wonder about the questionable issues that pop up on different stove makes/models. Disgruntled/poorly trained employee's? Nobody would be dumb enough to intentionally mess up a stove during manuf. ? Then again. Who would let one get away and be sold that was incorrect? Strange days indeed.

I'd be very cautious welding. My luck I'd warp the area. Another sealing problem to remedy! Good luck.

Reviving this one for a quick question...
When you guys talk about where you set the air control knob in relation to the ash lip, how far on to the rod did you install the knob? Is it on the whole way so the rod comes through the big coil to the end or just far enough to come to the end of the tight coil? Just curious...

I put mine on just far enough to get the tip through the small coil...
