P61a is 6-10 minutes. Actually, if it has short cycled and is still warm it may only take 2 minutes.

P43 is 4-6 minutes - this stove doesn't short cycle

Not that bad really. Put some pellets in the pot. Grab the torch. Stick it to the pot and hit the go switch. Sis had a Harmone P38 manual light And I had to use this trick when my ignitor when flouey......

Just make sure you get the highest alky percentage you can...
Junky stuff doesn't work for crap...

If you don't really have to use it that often... get the real deal starter..

We have one self starter (Quadrafire 1000) and it will auto lite in about 1-2 minutes if the pot is clean and there are no clinkers covering the igniter port, and if there are some clinkers then the time goes up a bunch with far more smoke too.

Our Whitfields are hand lite and I use a propane torch

I add a few pellets, hit it with the torch with the door nearly closed and within 2 minutes from start to finish I have a fire going, and then switch the auger on and let the nut shells fall on the burning pellets.

I can start with shells but the smoke at startup on the shells is nasty if it poofs into the room and makes the house smell like a 5 alarm kitchen wreck. :bug: so I use a few pellets.

Seems like it is only 2-3 min. but to be honest, I haven't timed it. Whenever I thought it was slow, I knew it was time to vac it out and brush down the pot really good.
This stove is so simple to keep clean.

I haven't had to manually start mine in almost three years but it only took about a minute, that is likely longer now for some reason. I soak a handful of pellets in a cup using rubbing alcy, then into pot followed by a match. Fire starts up fast.

ETA: If things are clean it takes about 2 minutes to light off with the cartridge heater.

If the ignitor went out, I wanted to get fire easily, so I tried the dollar store stuff.....worked just fine.
