Noticed the box stores are out of generators. They say they are getting shipments in every day but the are gone as soon as they make them available. the 40 to 50 machines they get in is but a small dent in the thousands of folks who are without power. After this is over, generators will be sitting on the shelves waiting for the next disaster. I have my machine. It really made a difference. So much so, that I know at some point I need to get a machine that will do more, like run the pump. Still thousands without power. Still roads not passable. Still have some schools closed. No shortage of wood at the roadside for those willing to go get it.

Be thinking about one of those that come on automatically. neighbor has one. imacman sent me this link. worth looking into. Power Package Deal
I called the Generac company. they said this promo was for the NE, but that didn't include Maine. Suggested shopping around for a Generac Dealer.

    Thanks J.

Looking into this, it may very well likely have been the temperature due to the power outage. The pellet stove ran some but not all night nor all day and the temps went down in the house to about 45-50 degrees. I just looked into this and below 65 degrees they can develop respiratory infection. The little guy was making some noises before he died :(

Lowes sells them and I think Home Depot as well.

ETA:If an outage lasting 30 hours once every decade is going to be the only issue. I'll look into why the machine failed to start, operator f/u is likely.

Worse thing I hate to admit is I am not able to pull those cords to start something. somethings have a electric start feature. That means another battery to keep up with. also, the geni has to be move out to an area and then the cords run. Not always something easily done. And you know, you might be flat off your feet and everything falls back on the MRS. I wish it was every 10 years, but truth of it all, but what ever reason, power outages are a more frequent event. now. It all but destroyed a Christmas a few years back. I am getting too old for the stress and demands of some things. Anything avoidable is worth considering.

I remember that Christmas my youngest dragged her insulin with her and used refrigerator here for storage.

ETA: I am still able to manually start both the snowblower and lawn mower. The snowblower can also be started via plugging it in and pushing a button.

I have an interlock on my electrical panel and a very large 25 foot extension cord just need a gen that I or the wife can start, I suspect I didn't have the generator setup so it could start. It was outside, cabled and the heavy 240 breakers were off on the panel so the heavy hitters wouldn't all try to start up at once. Gen is rated 5KW run. I wasn't about to fight with it so it got put away.

finally lit off the wood stove in the shop. made it cozy in no time.

    2017-11-01 16.42.55.jpg

so I could continue to work on this 450 Farmall

    2017-11-01 16.23.59.jpg

it appears that the air cleaner in the foreground (notice the indent in the top) allowed water to accumulate and then seep in through a pinhole. the result was that the accumulated water pushed out the oil that is supposed to be in the bottom, but more importantly, when the tractor was started water vapor was sucked into the motor. now it only ran long enough to unload it at my shop for some minor repairs. while it was waiting its turn, the water rich environment in the combustion chambers stuck the motor. i'm about to pull the pan so I can apply some pressure to the pistons from below. failing that, it's off with it's head!

At first they though it was type 2 but that changed upon further testing.
