I have a trash can you can use. On a serious note, I hope you get it fixed. I would start by pulling the plug and see what it looks like after it dies. Just because it is an electronic controlled carb, that does not mean that is the problem. There are plenty of mechanical things that could be causing this.

Im assuming you have the oem filter on it? If so those I have found become fuel soaked. Have you tried pulling the filter off after it will not fire?

The way y'all ride bikes, maybe you could rig up something to set the saw in at the bike and peddle it started:whistle::thumbs:

Im at 2100' which would lend to a richer tune than yours.
Even though the hd2 can appear to be clean and dry they still can be clogged with fuel soaked fines. Try it without the filter.

Next time you run it. Let the saw idle for a bit before you shut it off.

That is the same problem that I had with mine! Two times in less than a year ( I've had my saw for about 14 months )was the fuel mixing solenoid! The first time it would flood like crazy nothing I did would get it to work took it to the dealer new fuel mixing solenoid, problem fixed for about 9 months. The second time I would pull and pull it wouldn't start, took out the plug bone dry. Went back to the dealer new fuel mixing solenoid was put in about 2 months ago and it's been ok now.
When I get some time I am going to put a WJ-69 adjustable carb on it and call it done! That will be first on my list after my kitchen remodel that I am deep into right now!

Elevation shouldn't have much to do with it. They should adjust or autotune to atmospheric conditions. I can have a DA (density altitude) of 3000ft one day then have a negative da the next.....
Two Stokes are easy! You can do it!
    Sounds like that damm noid!

    They should but..

The first 661 I had after messing with ran fine at my elevation until I used it at a lower altitude. It had the original 4700 coil. I swapped to a maxflo filter at my house and it showed the lean condition coming out of a long cut.

I warrentied at my dealer for the 4701 coil and it was good after.

Isn't that the idea behind these saws to run optimally under different conditions without adjustment?

How about getting a bigger bar for the 461? It sounds like the 661 has lots of issues stihl needs to address. Your dealer needs to get your 661 fixed for free 1200$ for a saw is a d&%@mm big pile of money. Here in oregon 1200 would buy a nice used ms660 and a 044 or 372 to boot.

Yea I would make stihl get this right, esp since you just paid to fix it. Once running right sell that saw and find you a good used 660 here or one of the credible saw forums and be done with it for good.
