About loading in the minivan.....toyally possible. My wife and I hauled a soapstone (very heavy) in our GrandCaravan. Hauled from eastern SD to IA. We put the seats down, cardboard in and slid it in with boards under the feet. I did put it through the side doors to keep some weight up front.

A little trailer would work well too...cheap enough to rent if you can't borrow one...

I will need to build a harth as there is not one anymore that is one big reason of leaning to the madison. Would others be tacky?

Imho, staying warm will never be tacky regardless of which stove or ember protection or hearth :)

You could get a Madison (at your store, that is a plus in my mind), screw up some protection on the walls, put down an ember mat, done in time before the cold hits

It would easily go in the minivan, and wreck nothing if you plan it though.

That is the same stove I have. When sold at Lowe's, it is under the Summers Heat brand. It is more stove than I really need to heat this house but I really like the stove.

With my Madison, I have found the heat shields does the job for the stove; I do have it spaced from the wall according to the instructions. The wall has always been cool behind the stove even when it is up and cruising. What I found is that the most heat on the wall will be from the single walled stove pipe that I used. I don't have a infrared therm but just place my hand on the wall to see how hot. I went with single wall pipe because the double walled was just too costly. However, when I replace the pipe, I am planning on going double walled.

I think I spent about $120.00 on my hearth pad. Let me find that post.

By the way, check ebay for the through the roof chimney kit, I got my through the wall kit for way less than Lowe's wanted. People sometimes get into projects and then abandon them thus selling the kits.

Here you go for the hearth pad I made. I had never done tile work before so it wasn't maybe the best job in the world but I did get the surface fairly level. It was cheaper than the tile hearth pad I searched around to buy and I think the appearance is better than the mats you can buy and they are not exactly cheap either.

One thing that I wish I had known before starting, I went with porcelain tile and it said I had to use a special tile set for the porcelain; that tile set was more expensive than the regular thin set mortar. Something to keep in mind.

Well I can get last year pavers 16" x 16" for a good price from work. Though about putting them down then on the back wall some.

You would want to put them in some sort of border and then grout them. You don't want embers falling into the cracks.

Well stove is ordered. Getting the madison from my work. As long as the stove Is good and I can get 6hrs of burn time I will be grateful. I also have 26 , 16"X16" pathers I plan to use to build a hearth. 64"X64" and up the back wall as much as possible.
I was wondering if the admins could change the name of this thread. It has grown to a lot more then just 6 inch or 8 inch chimney. Bad thing is I don't even know who is an admin to tag. Lol
I will continue updates and tons of questions through the whole build process

As for an admin...just tag 'em like this... Moderating
