Also 2017 MS 180, no price listed, and a 2017 MS 180 C-BE, no price listed. Ditto those models for 2016.
For a choice there I'd probably go with the 170 or a straight MS 180 if they have one. I should say that it is perhaps because of the narrow kerf chain is one reason they cut so good. The only down side to that is you need to sharpen more often and the chain will wear out a but quicker. For sharpening, I have one of the dremel type tools that I can hook onto the battery on the atv so can sharpen it right in the woods when needed. It takes only a couple minutes to do and is easy to do. Just have to be careful to not hold grinder on too long else you'll burn the chain. You can also get some stuff to put on the wheels to keep it cool while grinding. Stihl sells one for around $30 but you can sometimes find them for as low as $10.
This is like having a consult with the head surgeon at Mass General about my bunions! Thanks so much for your advice, and I will report back tomorrow.
Might as well pickup a quart of the pre-mixed fuel. It'll get you going and used to the saw before mixing your own 2-stroke Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
my office is at #16, all the way at the end of the building on the dock side is a pile of pallets between the stairs and a trailer, or the loading dock on the other side of the stairs. Take all you want!
If you want a good but cheap solution to sharpening a chain, get a Granberg File-n-joimt or one of the copycat ones sold by Oregon and Stihl. It will give a perfect sharp chain and takes only about 5 minutes to do a small chain with no power needed. Even one of the all-in-one file guides made by Stihl can do a good job but it takes more control by the person using it to get a really sharp chain. Don't worry about matching the sharpener to the brand of saw or chain. You can do a perfectly fine job on a Husqvarna chain using a Stihl jig.
Undestood. But for a first time user, it eliminates needing to buy a gas can and oil to mix. Sure, long term mix your own, but for a new chainsaw operator who may not using the saw for periods of time, letting the mix age, there's nothing wrong with pre-mix, IMO. Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
We're getting the Stihl MS 180, $199.99. They're just putting some gas in it to start it up. And yes, we're getting a can of the special gas.
