Hello It is a 2003 dark green craftsman 22" push mower. 1. I drained the gas before storag so I put in fresh has. 2. Checked the choke lever for proper operation. 3. Replaced the air filter 4. Replaced the spark plug 5. Checked the automatic choke to see if lever moves. Still no starting but sounds like it is getting fuel and spark. Finally, I removed the air filter and sprayed Gumoit Brand carb & choke cleaner into the carborator. It started right up with one pull and is fine now! So what was wrong? What did that spray do???
The carb and lines were probably empty of fuel. The carb cleaner made it get some sort of fuel, and the carb took over after it popped. Will it restart easily now with no "jet fuel"?
Pretty routine for start of season, basically gets everything primed and then back to normal until drained again.
Don, I did the same thing a few days ago, except I left about the tank about 1/2 full last fall. Added gas, nothing. Checked the plug, was fine. Took off the AC, and sprayed some starter fluid in......we have liftoff. Had to do it about 3 times before it kept running. Still seems to be running a little odd, like it's hunting for the right speed, but no bogging.
The old gas should be dumped out unless you add the stabilizer in the fall. That might be your issue.
It starts fine now. Could the auto choke be stuck closed? If the auto damper on my Harman gets stuck closed, then it will not fire up either.
My smaller mower wouldn't start, no matter how much I pulled it. I gave it a shot of starting fluid, and it started on the first pull. Since then it has started on the first pull every time. Sometimes it just needs to be woken up.
I never drain/treat anything. Started the older than me troy bilt tiller this weekend, 5 hp Briggs flathead. Shot of carb cleaner and Bam! Off tilling with year old ethanol blended gas!!!!! The newer horse (parents tiller)fired first pull without any cleaner! Wheel it outside... Choke pull fire idle!!! damm ethanol!!!!
Yeah, it's the worst. Lol. I'm in the same camp as you regarding ethanol. I don't use Stabil, and I don't dump any of it either. I will fill the tank with fresh e10 though before starting. I've never had any issues with it in over 20 years.
