No, the only reason it is not on the ground already is because of the dang weather. I want to drop it across the garden where it won't hang up in trees and will be easy to buck. However, the odd 14 inches of rain (not all at once) has made the garden a pit of mud. I am going to check; might can do it today or Wednesday. Sisters want to take a trip tomorrow to Peaks of Otter.
I can't find the comment now but someone said to make a wedge out of the hickory I cut that was hung in the tree. I decided to see if I could and split out a plank and made a wedge; was not sure of the dimensions because I don't have any wedges and there were no dimensions on the net. Anyway, the reason for the post is that it would be a good project to raise money for FHC. Someone with the equipment could make hickory wedges with the FHC logo on them and sell them to raise funds for FHC.
Dimensions don't matter all that much, they need to be thin enough that you can start them in the back cut, so thinner than the kerf of the saw, and taper to about an 1 " in 5" of length then have two that taper to 1 1/2" in 8" and you'll be good to go
Looks good! I wouldn't expect it to last as long as a plastic one but it looks like it will work just fine
I took one of the logs bucked out of the dead hickory and using my splitter I split out a plank. Then I squared it up. I marked guide lines and then cut kerfs that I removed with the chisel. Then I dressed it up using the cheap belt sander I purchased at Harbor Freight as my gift since Father Christmas forgot to stop by my house. Of course someone with the proper wood working tools could do a nice job. I do have a table saw but it has not been set up; it was one of Lowe's Black Friday deals a few years ago. Trying to get the shed cleaned up.
