Do I need a PP5020AV?

Ran a tank of gas through the Saw today, cut up a little oak from the pile, I used 32 to 1 mix I had mixed for the weed Wacker.
I didn't put the tac on it at all but it was running a little lean out of the box, fattened it up and tested it in the wood, saw ran great, heck of a saw for the price
Oh Yeah, looked down, there it was, scrench laying on the ground, but I put it back in and it stayed there the rest of the time.

 

See, you did need that saw! It's not a bad little saw.

I don't know if I needed it or not but I like it, doesn't feel as heavy as I thought it would.
The chain needs a little sharpening attention.
Might be a refurb but it run like a new saw, and looks good, the only scratches are on the bottom.

The air filter does seem like it could be a tighter fit. how do I go about fixing it up with silicone, anyone ?

 

Great score! Love the pics! Well worth it at that price. Looks like your having fun with it. Lots of guys running pro and semi pro ops around here on saws just like it. The logic is if some smack head is just going to boost it, or a tree is going to break it, why not run a cheapy?

 

I put grease on the lip, which seems to work fine. And I reshaped the holddown wire to make it a bit tighter.

Reawakening an old thread - my PP5020 has been giving a little trouble. This is after 3+ years and at least 30 cord cut. I have put very little into it so far; bar nuts, tensioner (broke when the bar nuts loosened ), chains. For maintenance, I have changed the plug once, fuel lines once, filters once, and the starter rope broke once.

Until a few weeks ago, when it would not run right no matter what I did. So I ordered a carb, and put it on, and it ran like a charm again. Until last weekend, when it died and would not start again. Frustrated, I put it away, and used the Husky 141 to finish the job.

Today I pulled it out, retuned the carb, and it purred again. Not sure why a retune was needed, maybe the carb rubber parts change a little after it gets "wet"? I am hopeful it will continue to run well.

BUT ... I also made the mistake of going to eBay, to see what VMInnovations had going. Oh my, a refurb PP5020 for $140 delivered. No I don't need it. Really, mine is running great again. But it would be nice to have a full set of parts, right? Or maybe a 18" bar on a second saw? Nope don't need it.










It arrives on May 2.

What bar and chain are you running on yours? I'm still using the original bar, with LPX chain. The original vanguard chain is still being used as well.

 

Sometimes VM has 'em even cheaper than that...I've seen as low as $110 IIRC. Actually they have sold them under $100 before, but I think those were "non runners" that often time need carb work or other...
I bought a PP4218av from them for $48 one time, ended up it looked like it was under water but I was able to make it into a runner with no parts, most people wouldn't have been willing to split the engine open on something like that though...oh well, win some lose some.
As far as your saw I would wonder if it is time for fuel lines again...that's the number 1 problem I have had with mine...or maybe a primer bulb sucking air...what's it doing exactly?

 

It isn't consistent. Right now it is running great. When it doesn't it won't accelerate out of idle without dying. And if it dies, it is hard to start.

I looked at the fuel line and the bulb, and figured they were OK. Maybe you are correct, I have never replaced the primer bulb. I have a new one and new fuel line on the shelf, perhaps I will change them this weekend.

How long do primer bulbs last?

 

The stock bar n chain did a good job but, I switched to a 16" bar .

I replaced the primer bulb yesterday, and went out and dropped a couple of trees and cut them into rounds. It cut quite well, I think that might have helped.
