That tree looks to be hung up pretty good. I think the only way it is coming down is to pull it down. I would face cut toward the lean and back cut so the bottom is loose and then pull it down. Position yourself up hill and cut it close to the bottom. Then pull it from the bottom.
The way the stump end is split in almost a barber chair I would not go near that thing with a saw. There is a lot of energy stored in that split.
Not a tree, but a 1 liter bottle staked 1' in front of a washer. Tannerite is fun, but you don't want stuff coming back at you. We found a side panel 100' in the field to the right. Motor was just behind the backstop.
So many dittos I was literally thinking I'd tannerite that sumabeaoch...I'd put water jugs or a blatter around it to direct the blast!
Looking at his terrain, I'd give Tannerite a serious/probable thought. Maybe even setup a couple targets on the trees that it's hung up in.
I would probably cut it but won't give advice here for sure except to say that a 2 ton come-a-long would not do the trick for me. Too small; too slow.
Cut 'er mostly down with the rifle, and then the "final cut" with load of Tannerite...for a grand finale!
Cut the maple so that they both fall in the same direction. The idea is that the maple will pull the hickory. Put a back cut on the hickory to allow a stress relief. Either a notch or one cut.
Use less reactive target (1lb) and put *inside the washer before shooting. It might take a couple tries shooting "blind" but when you make contact...wow. Myself and some friends have done extensive "testing & research" on the matter. Stoves with lockable doors are my favorite. We have a device that will put a bowling ball 100+ yards into the air using 1lb.
Not familiar with CampyBob. Sounds like a good man though if he too likes to dismantle appliances through percussive means!
It looks like if it falls(if you do decide to cut it) it will get hung up in the Oak that is behind the crappy maple.
