I'm assuming the accelerator pump is the little brass fitting on the metering side of the carburator?

Maybe you say it differently...but Idle/TAS/LA screw should be OUT to decrease idle. Counterclockwise = lower idle.

I understand that. I'm saying with the screw turned the WHOLE WAY IN, it will not increase idle at all. I've rebuild dozens and dozens of saws, I tune them on a weekly basis.

The idle is totally unaffected by the LA (idle) screw. Even with the L screw turned where it needs to be.

Yep. And dollar for dollar, I'm still unimpressed with them. They blow through twice as much gas as my Echo CS355T, and while there IS a slight power increase, it's just not enough to justify the cost and upkeep of the saw, IMO. And that's coming from a Stihl guy!!

Ah, thought we were trying to lower idle.
I'd agree with above comments...try a new $15 carb. They're $10 if you wait for China ship. I know I lose patience after 1 rebuild and can't dial it in.

If my pap hasn't destroyed his little echos I'm pretty sure you won't. I'm not familiar with the accelerator pumps on these carbs but it could let gas though if it's leaking I would think. The last saw I had that wouldn't respond to anything had bad seals.

Does it have the internal non removable check valve ? The one that usually looks like a brass orifice ? The one everyone chemically warfare's with carb cleaner ? The one everyone sticks wires into ? The one everyone holds a air nozzle to ? The one......

And as far as the quality of echos top handles, they sure make lousy wheel chocks.

Yes, you have to remove the throttle shaft and pop the brass fitting out to reach it. There is a little brass piston in there with a rubber o-ring and a spring. The o-ring goes bad and causes an air leak. Throw the spring and rubber print away, reinstall the piston and JB weld it closed. Reassemble.

That said, most 020T's don't have accelerator pumps, but with that saw being so old, it's probably been monkeyed with many times over the years. So who knows what it has for a carb. Check your bearing play and make sure you don't have a hole in the impulse line and it's connected to the carb housing well. I've had one that ran good on the top end, but wouldn't idle. Impulse line was barely on.

My Poulan PP5020AV would not come off of idle, it just went flat when the throttle was opened, and usually died. Sometimes I could get it to rev if I worked it, but then it would die coming off the throttle.

I disassembled and cleaned the carb (twice), to no avail. Bought a new carb off of eBay, installed it on Wednesday after work, and today it cut like a champ.

These little carbs are just not worth working on, in most cases. I still try anyway, but usually fail.
