Looking at the picture from the outside, it looks like the exaust pipe is way bigger than the termination. That is why I thought it had an integrated OAK. And with that in mind, looking back at the first pic of the post, it looks as if there is both black pipe and aluminum flex pipe are coming out of the wall thimble. However, until Ivanhoe tells us specifically if there is an OAK, it is really tough to tell.

Now you should understand why I stay away from post on venting!

With the possible exception of the impossible keeping of combustible items from touching the pipe (which may not be a problem if it is an exterior OAK around the vent, the only issue would likely be amount of bubble on the length and any Fahrenheit vent length restriction(ain't reading yet another manual)).

I see only one pipe going through the closet, so, if there is outside air, that pipe would have to be direct vent (and to me, it seems a bit small to be direct vent). There doesn't appear to be a thimble where it finally goes through the outside wall, so, tough to tell.....God knows, I am no expert on every pipe available out there, and without knowing the pipe, we wont know the clearance either.

The venting went as a straight 1/4 × 4" x 8' solid pipe for exhaust. Then 6" black stove pipe wrap around the exhaust pipe for OAK. The black fabricated gizmo is attached to the air inlet of the furnace and the big hole is for the exhaust pipe to go through and the black stove pipe attaches on the biggest hole.

Going back into who installed this?
The seller purchased the place with this set-up already installed.
It was a new Fahrenheit furnace in the living room which the wife wanted removed for more space so she says:rofl: .
I would of never chosen that kind of stove but that's me.
It isn't pretty for a stand alone unit like you can get everywhere(probably was a door to door salesman:smoke:)
With this gizmo set-up, I can only guess it was a dealer installation.
Strange one indeed but it was functional and would of needed vent cleaning more often.
Insurance & WETT inspection, no clue what was going on behind closed doors:whistle:

I was wondering how it passed a WETT installer but guessed it was like all things involving people, insurance usually relies on self certification, you know, was it installed by a ........................... (fill in the blanks).

I think, while it worked, it certainly has got no UL listing, therefore, were a fire to happen, he'd be $crewed, insurancewise

Nice find.:salute: I'd love to run across an auto ignition model for a decent price. Then I relive the memories of the h*ll I went through getting the one I have into the basement. I'll stick with gel and matches until this one dies.

Those adapters look like what the oil tech folks offered as an install option on the FHA oil furnace when we had it replaced last (circa 2000), to allow for OAK / direct vent to outside.. Said it would make the furnace "5 to 10% more efficient", IIRC.. They would have built the OAK / flue run on-site.

Like this one.. (It may have been this same kit, too many years/too many Beers.)
