Yes, just returned from the cave! Progress has been slow this week, super busy with work, but just got the second set of legs glued up and the. Bearer on the top of the first set. Hope to start assembly this weekend!
No, they are glued and pegs weren't in the design. Reading a great timber framing book though learning all about how to peg stuff.
You can peg those joints anytime, I would,. Drill a couple holes Tap some pegs in with glue , sand them off, done deal
Not only will pegging the joints make them a heck of a lot stronger, it just looks cool, expecially using contrasting wood
Offset the peg holes by 1/32" and your peg will draw the joints tight together. I know its too late now, but for future use
Second set of legs done, glued the bearer on and started prepping the tops to cut to length. Also cleaned the shop a bit since it ks a disaster area. Hope to start cutting leg housing dados tomorrow.
Im not too sure that I would have just glued that bearer on top of your legs. Once you have expansion and contraction, that bearers going to crack. Wood moves, but the glue doesnt.
Nice...Didn't know this trick. Of course I never built anything either. Great looking bench Garry Polmateer!
Too late now! Just following along with the instructions from the Paul Sellers blog. I hope it doesn't crack or if it does, that it does not impact the performance. How to Build a Workbench – Leg Frame Glueing Up (part9)
Cut one of the benches to length, that's about all for today! The lamination was good at least. My cutting.. I need some more practice!
I will be honest - that was an accident haha but good to hear the feedback, will do on purpose on future projects! I am still a total novice!
Gotta' start somewhere. That's MUCH better than my first attempt at making something. I've been a "woodworker" a long time, and I still learn stuff all the time.
Today's update (no pics since nothing exciting to show). Cut the aprons and wellboard to length and planed down tbe laminations so they are as flat as possible. Tomorrow, we have a snowstorm which means I should have lots of time inside to work! Hope to get apron housing dados and vise dados cut and who k ows, maybe some assembly!
