So the bolt started to come out and stopped? Is the head rounded or is the bolt spinning and doing nothing? If bolt spinning, it sounds like the bolt has stripped threads in the middle and that is a real PITA, but prying up my cut you a break.

I have a Lady Foot Prybar in my arsenal that has been used alot over the years for when prying up was needed...

The more I think about it-if the issue is the bolt and is turning easy and you have a vise grip that can bite on the head you might be able to pull up while turning and catch some good threads. This is iffy because you will need a vise grip small enough to get in a likely small area and be able to turn in that area.

Can you tell I have done had issues on older vehicles before? Being creative is a huge part of working on vehicles, especially older ones :headbang:

I like plan "C" cars are much easier to work on without all that silly bodywork in place. ditch the hood and front clip, and fixing it will be a breeze!
that's why I like to work on farm tractors... the engine sits waist high and proud!

Maybe this would help? Methinks I may have to add one to the huge tool arsenal....tools are like pellets, never have enough good ones.

Woke up to about 11* this morning, and had a dusting of sn*w on the ground. Temp is up to about 20*, sun is coming out......cars, road, & driveway almost all melted off already. Just used a broom to clear the deck & sidewalk.

    Shouldn't you be skiing? :D

Tractors are cool! Props & Respect for the work you do there artc.

Gino's Plan A worked! pulled out the 3/4" ratchet, used a reducing adapter to fit the 8mm tiny socket on, the extra torque, & pry foot, did the trick.

Torque value on this hold-down bolt is 44 inch/lbs. aka "tighten until snug", there was at least 10 ft/lbs on it, guessing. :picard:

    * Know who the culprit was - former mechanic that installed the battery, his motto was 'just torque it to 20 ft/lbs' .. And he always wondered "why" he kept breaking spark plugs, when trying to change out for maintenance. (He didn't last too long at the company.)

Threads were good but rusty, cleaned up w/a wire brush, gave them a healthy coat of anti-seize, ran the bolt back down until the plastic foot was snug on the battery, it ain't moving, I'm calling it good. ( I'll check it over the next few days to make sure it's staying put. )

Go skiing! You can drink later. :D

I go to Hannaford once a week. I check their meats area, but I admit I don't check the turkey. Whatever roast is on sale is what I get. same for the chicken etc. Sales usually have 2-3 backs a pound off the usual price. We also have a local IGA that has really good sales on meats and very good produce. I don't want to come off as a snob, but I avoid Walmart as much as I can. I hate the parking there and the checkouts are ridiculous. The only plus there is they have a Dunkin Donut so I can get a coffee after shopping.

I love it when Plan A works. Its frustrating when you are on plan F or later. Then again, if A or B dont work, generally its plan BFH !

When I was a mechanic at a dealership years ago, I walked past someones bay and he was sitting in the driver seat just staring at the dash. When I asked what was up he said there was a short he couldnt find due toi the fuse blowing so quickly. So he jumped the fuse and was waiting to see where the smoke would come from. :faint:
