no stove today, too warm. Was nice to be out cutting wearing a thin hoodie. Cleaned out the ashes . Will get it going in the morning again burning pine to start and then maybe some red oak. Cold works its way back in tonight and tomorrow. Single digits Sunday night.
It's gusting 45kph or 27mph is 14f and -6 with the wind burning mulberry and ash. Love this colder weather I was getting sick of the rain and warm temps.
Its -28c/-18.5f here right now and the stove is chooching away. We were gone all day and only returned home from Calgary Alberta at 10 pm so Im only one load of larch into my day of burning. The house is pretty cool except where Im sitting 3 feet away from the stove Im always amazed at how long it takes to heat a houses thermal mass once you let the stove go out. Oh well, I like leaving home once in awhile and doing other things. Upon my return its a good opportunity to scoop out the ashes easier and to clean the glass.
Just got home after being out all yesterday and last night four ash splits and one cherry to give the pile of hot coals a boost
11° and The boiler was hungry, so I fed it some ash and some oak limbs. It looks like some oak and locust are in the next row mixed with some beech and ash.
Current temp 18° with a 6°WC gusting to over 20mph. Only going up to the mid 20s for a high. Loaded the stove with ash birch and pine.
22 here this AM, it was 52 in the house when we got up. No fire last night, Oak, Cherry, & Elm are bringing that 52 right up. 60 inside now.
Nah, we're used to it. In April when it gets to 52 deg. out and it's sunny we open the windows to air the house out. That's practically tee shirt weather.
Update; the living room, where the stove is, is now up to 70. The rest of the house, not there yet, but coming along nicely.
16º out 71º in this morning at 6:30. Gonna load'r up with hickory and locust and off I go into the wild blue yonder.
19 outside heading to 8 degrees tonite, a little snow falling. I tossed ash, hickory, locust and a couple chunks of hedge in the burner last nite.
I'm with you on that one man, our house gets in the 55 range some times and I don't even notice it lol
When it's cool we dress warm, when it's warm, aka the stove is running strong, we take stuff off. It's funny, the colder it is, the warmer we are. The stove is cranking, when it warms up into the mid 30's we don't burn as much and it's cooler in the house. When it gets in the 40's we don't burn, or just a morning or evening fire. We're used to it.
Yup you can always put on more layers. Reason I love winter in the summer their is only so many layers that can come off.
Hi HDRock, thanks for the link some good information in that thread. After reading maybe by accident my impulse purchase wasn't that bad. Thanks again Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
It was 20 this morning with some good winds, we're back to the wood stove. I loaded up the liberty with four splits of sugar maple on the bottom and another six splits of cherry on top. The basement was 67 this morning with the temp up here at 69, I think the furnace kicked on twice overnight. I had the thermo set at 62.
