x2 - that pic looks spot on. And the ash is grainy, like coffee grounds. The ash is heavier vs. other pellets, but on the small stove here, that's not necessarily a bad thing: the ash stays in the firebox, and doesn't get carried into the passages/venting as much, vs. other brands. * Not disputing your testing, just offering a different viewpoint.
Slvrblkk, are you taking your temperature reading at the burn pot I assume? , I am using a raytek mini temp gun that I use for HVAC work. Want to compare temps when I burn the Lg's and 802's. May have to consume a few brews for best results.
No...I take it with a digital thermometer on the same place on the stove door. I haven't figured out a way to get a better reading yet but it is just a home test. I would like to get it a bit more "perfected" though.
So I made the trek east to the dealer yesterday and picked up both Lg's and the green mt pellets. Wow!!, I gained 10 - 15 degrees with the Lg's and a nice whiter flame. Burning the green mts today. Very close to the Lg's in heat. Think I will sick with Lg's the stove seems to like these. Happy new year to all and thanks for your input........
Burning new stock of Satisfaction ( '16-'17 ) pellets now: Notes: ------- Pellet length is consistently longer, 1" vs. 3/4" (avg.) on old stock, and there is a greater mix of longer pellets vs. shorter ( 1/2" avg. ) in bag, no issues with any hopper bridging, or auger crunch on feed, * Ash was building up on edges of burn pot (vs. old stock settings) - had to increase combustion air RPM by (70) to keep the burn pot edges clean. ( No additional carbon buildup, etc. noted, just needed some more air to push the heavier ash, clear of the burn pot.) * Heat output is exactly the same @ 225 F / 1.6 lb/hr @ the Heat Exchange exit: no change in ash volume, or appearance: a very consistent pellet - just longer pellets, in this new batch.
Very interesting CleanFire, a few weeks ago I bought Lg's and have been happy with the higher heat output. Then last week a local feed store has LaCretes. So after reading the reports on them here decided to try them. Seem to burn even hotter but a bit more ash. Cost more then the Lg's but saves me the 50mi round trip for the Lg's. Just my 2 cents on the LaCretes as we went back into the icebox this weekend.
Greetings vtktm802 , good to hear the LG's are treating you well, and we really like LaCretes here also - an excellent cold weather pellet. We find the same vs. the (2): LG's have less ash in appearance - but denser.., LaCrete's a little more ash volume, but lighter & fluffy - keeps the burn pot cleaner between stove cleanings. Lacretes burn 5F - 10F hotter @ the Heat Exchange exit here vs. LGs, depending on feed rate & intake air temp., which translates to using less pellets at a given feed rate. * On our small stove here, that works out to about a $15.00 differential between the (2) brands for approx. the same BTU output. Our situation is reverse: LG's available within 30 miles , LaCrete's are 1.5 hours away. ... It may be time for a road trip.
