Last year used a couple times..he said it worked then. The insert came with the house when the guy bought the house. Said he didn't know much about it except it worked, didn't like it. He actually took his whole chimney flue down! Thanks for the blower info.

This is what it looks like. It has to get to 120° to turn on. Screenshot_2016-12-02-19-59-23.png

Guess it would be hard to check if not burning. The guy had pulled the insert out, and was in his basement.

A hairdryer will fix that. Direct the heat of the hairdryer onto the snap disc, and it should turn on.

Or just jumper the contacts. Obviously don't get zapped, use insulated wire and or rubber gripped pliers.

Another Jotul Rockland owner and same sentiment as T-Stew , too small and stuffed in to heat well for my liking. About 1900 sq ft gambrel in Mass. Below 20F and even cranking all day it doesn't cut it. It is sexy though and would be an excellent supplemental heat source.

Where are you guys finding blowers for cheap? I need a new set for mine and Jotul wants close to $300. The motors are sealed, can't lube them. Had bad luck with a generic replacement that was still $80.

Hair dryer or jumper. OK, no worries I'd get someone else to do that testing. I'm a chicken with electrical.

The Drolet that I just installed in the thread that I linked to earlier was purchased on the cheap at the end of last heating season...I think one reason he hadn't sold it before was that he said the blower didn't work...I suspected that it just had a thermoswitch that needed to be hot, so I drove the 1.5 hours to go look at it, yep, there's the switch, so I took the risk and made the deal. When I got it home I jumped around the switch and the blower was fine. I did wire in a manual switch for it because it takes too long to come on and then goes off too early when relying on the thermoswitch (IMO)

My Quadrafire has a manual and an automatic setting for the blower, with the rheostat. Just this year it dust go on manually, so I have to wait until the snap disc turns on the blower. If neither position will work, then I'll take it in to work and fix it. Probably something really stupid and easy, like a crusty contact on the switch for manual on.

I would like to have it comes on abd off at a lower temp. Probably just need a lower setting snap disc.

I have a VC Montpelier that I bought last year. Apparently I hadn't heard about the changes in said company and, after shopping around various wood stove and fireplace stores in my area for options, I decided to go with my gut and get that one. So far, I've been happy with it. I do need to radically step up my game on firewood though. Hence, my signing up here. :)

Is the Quadra-Fire Voyageur Grand considered a NON EPA unit ???
