Awesome job on "Fire in the hole" you did accommodate nicely for the arch, & made it look like a stove. I'm with you the surrounds would not be appropriate for an arched masonry job. Did you see my last post about a used lopI Freedom insert? I'd trash the surround of course.

    Thanks.
Yeah that sounds like a pretty good deal if the stove checks out OK...I can't tell you much about that model though...but pics are always good!

There is only 1 pic. On the market site. The seller is to send more tomorrow. I've researched the model, but wondered if anyone has one.

I had a flush insert, Jotul Rockland c550. Worked well and very nice looking. Right at the limit what would fit in my somewhat small fireplace.
Flush inserts have a lot of disadvantages though. Maybe some work better than the Rockland but swapping it for the freestanding Woodstock stove was a major improvement.

Lopi stoves are very well built. My parents had one in the cabin for about 20 years. Granted it was a freestanding endeavor stove, but the build quality is/ was excellent. They just put on a jotul Allagash LP gas stove so they don't have to haul wood or pellets.

Now that's a gorgeous insert! Yes flush do have there disadvantages. I'm tester ingredients back & forth. If I buy the used Lopi it's not flush, but only $300.

As long as it's in good shape, that used lopi may be the best solution.

My used Quadrafire was a great decision that I'll never regret.

Lopi stoves are indeed well built. I have two from Travis Industries (parent company) and love both of them.
    What to look for?
    1. Door gasket. Easy fix, tho.
    2. Door latch- check for excessive wear on the knife-edge that most Lopi's use.
    3. Burn tubes- these things are hearty so dont be discouraged by surface rust. Bent tubes should be replaced and could still be available from a dealer.
    4. Baffle cracks in the corner. Secondary stoves that have been run too hot can develop cracks in the baffle supports and corners. Theyre probably harmless as the firebox is jacketed in another layer of steel that is normally intact. My used Libery had these small cracks, but my welder fixed em.

Parts are available through dealers or a few guys on ebay. One guy is custom making lopi parts (tubes, supports, etc.)

I dont have experience with that model... Is it still made? What year is it? My liberty was 2002 so it's seen some wood, but not a ton.
Paint is usually stove brite, just match the color and follow directions.

Full disclosure- we paid $400 for a 3.1cu ft. Liberty with a working blower. This stove is $3500ish new.

OK thanks for this. I went to see it tonight. Door gasket needs replaced.
    The door seal was non-existent.
Why? Not sure if it was because the gasket was basically gone or something else..
The handle worked, and was sturdy.
Inside the baffle tube were redish/rusty, but didn't appear bent.
    Fire bricks some broken.
The Blower did not turn on.
Curious about getting it replaced cost or if it maybe a simple fix.
It's a pretty heavy well made insert.
    Anyone dealt with blower replacement?

It might just need a cleaning and lube for the blower motor. They are fairly simple.

May have a thermo switch that needs to be hot to kick the blower on.

Well that would be simple. It still did not turn on, though.
That was a great deal. Freedom model is still available
Here are the pics I took tonight. Wasn't thinking..should have gotten inside pics too! My new friends here could take a look and offer opinions & advice.

Yep, that's a big one. Sometimes they have on, or auto, which uses the thermo snap disc. You can always bypass the snap disc to ensure it works. Or use a hairdryer to get the snap disc to turn on.

Where is the snap disc located? If there was/is one? This insert had a cord with a box switch, & lever.

The stove is 20 years old, when was the last time it was used? The fan may have seized if it hasn't been used recently. The snap disk is usually in the fan chamber at the bottom of the stove. As the stove warms up it turns the fan on, when the stove cools it will shut the fan.

I have found replacement fans on the web, either from stove shops (more expensive) or just by eyeballing and picking one from a fan manufacturer (i.e. Fasco). Not usually too expensive or hard to replace...
