Went and looked at the Yardmax last night. It looks well made and I will probably pick one up Saturday morning.
    Thanks for asking HDRock !

I STILL LOVE my Homelite electric 5-ton. It's now about 8 years old, I burn 3-5 cords per year.

    They're still priced at $300.
Homelite 5-Ton Electric Log Splitter-UT49103 - The Home Depot

Quiet, starts with the push of a button, no fuel, no fumes, virtually maintenance free. I do have to add hydraulic oil once or twice per season. When this one finally dies, I'll buy another.
Not recommended for really tough or stringy wood.

Harbour Freight will put their 5 ton electric on offer several times a year; plus you might get a good deal on a used one as I did. You will be surprised what these little 5 ton electrics can split. See my posts on my electric splitter. They are slower than the gasoline powered ones but I have split a lot of wood with my little splitter. It did not take me long today to get a nice stack of red oak split that I stacked beside the door for the coming rains.

I see you have a foot switch, press, runs, release, off. What did you do about the control arm for the splitter? Was that just tied in place or some other modification?

Confucius say..."Sell a man on buying some firewood and he heats his house for a month. Sell the same man on a log-splitter, and he'll heat his house for 20+ years."

It's not actually a switch. It's a foot pedal with a nylon cord that pulls both the electric switch and hydraulic lever simultaneously. My splitter doesn't allow tying down either control.

The sooner you buy it the sooner cost per day of ownership takes effect.... So the faster you move the cheaper it is haha

old thread but... Did you buy that yardmax? whats your verdict on it after a few years?
I'm looking at this or a countyline. the yardmax is 2 seconds faster and has a larger engine but not by much. I like either engine and they are both chinese so doesn't matter to much to me.
Plus the extra cradles/wedge is a nice bonus. the countyline will cost close to the same after buying a cradle and possibly the wedge.
Although I probably won't buy the wedge.

I did buy the Yardmax and have been really happy with it. The 4 way wedge that came with it is not all that useful for me, prefer to just use the single wedge and split to the size I want. I have ran some pretty nasty stuff through it and it has never not split it Also like the auto return on it as i can be moving splits while it retracts.

How's the ergonomics of it? Do the wheels get in your way?
How useful are the log cradles? I know cradles are useful but those look pretty narrow compared to others I have seen.
It could just be the online picture though not doing it justice.

The cradles could be a little bigger but they work fine for me. Ergonomics are fine, I don't feel like the wheels are in the way but a lot of it has to do with how much you're moving around to gather material to split and where you have it stacked in relationship to where you are standing....if that makes sense.

Hey jdude I'm glad you got the splitter. It does not surprise me about the 4 way wedge.

Umm... the specs and description says max log diameter of 18". I'm working some 48" rounds right now, and have plenty of 24" to 36" rounds at the house to get through. Seems pretty limited.

If you are using a DHT 22T to split 48" rounds I would think just about any 22T splitter will do about the same as far as splitting goes.
