The sheetrock lift is one of the best things I have ever bought. It is actually a Habor Freight look-alike, bought on eBay for about $130 delivered. It paid for itself the first time I used it, and I expect to sell it on CL for pretty much full price when I am done with it.

The wall with the drywall and window in it I reframed. The other one I will simply hide behind drywall, it is an interior non load-bearing wall. I pulled the original drywall off because it was worse than the framing. The guy who built this place went with the school of "I can do a crappy job on this step, because the next one will cover it up." However, copious amounts of texture apparently does not hide all faults!

I just realized the implications of what I wrote - there is someone out there copying Harbor Freight tools, and selling them for less! What is the world coming to?! :picard:

The 30 is super easy to use. And, when packed tight and burning hot, that stove throws out some heat. I suggest upgrading the blower. The larger blower is a real improvement and it's a lot quieter.

I have done 3-4 small burns, and found it quite acceptable for heat output and burn time so far. I haven't yet measured stove top temp or tried to accurately determine what I can get out of it yet. Too warm to do that. So far it seems a little harder to light than my old stove, but I am sure I will figure it out.

Today I left the door open 1/2" for a few minutes, and that seemed to really help. Then I ran it with the air wide open until I had a good spread of flames and a hint of secondary action. Then I closed the air to where the handle was about even to the lip of the ash tray, and left it there for most of the remainder of the burn. When there was all coals, and no flame, I opened the air again. That all seemed to work OK.

I am keeping the upgraded blower in mind, but will first see if we are unhappy with the included one.

How tight can it be packed? Can it be loaded almost to the tubes? Anyone have a picture of one really packed? I never really did that with the Allnighter.

I'm watching this thread. When we purchase a stove, this one will be in running. Seems alot of bang for the buck.

Man bushpilot you sure are getting me anxious to get my 30 hooked up and burning!

Maybe after 99 lbs sees just how nice it is, she will change her mind about allowing it in her basement?

That whole thread was awesome! I love my "tiny fancy blue rock", but got a bit of firebox envy looking at some of those monsters stuffed full. That pumped me up ... come on winter!

Yes, you'll figure it out...and it will improve a lot as the temps drop too

Right where I want to be.
Stuff it and get it rockin' then turn down the air real low for a nice light show and as much heat as you want.
The hard starts may be due to OATs.
I find it very easy to adjust when I can see the stove temp. Get an IR temp gun and point it at the top of the step right in the middle of the stove. It's the hottest part of the stove that I've found.
Wait for it to hit about 400-450, then start shutting down the air. I usually just set it about 1/8" open and keep an eye on it. If it doesn't start the secondary burn, I'll open it back up for a few minutes, then try again.
That's for a long, not super hot burn.....maybe 500 deg or so.

I am convinced it will prove to be. So far nothing but positive to say about build quality. Yes, it is a budget stove, but it is a nice-enough looking serious heater! Or so I am told, I will let you know in a couple of months.

DexterDay , how long of a burn does that give you? With what wood species, and how operated? I'll be running mine on Washington woods - mostly pines and douglas fir, plus tamarack.

A mix of ash, oak, and hickory.

If I load it full at 10pm, I can reload at 4p-5pm the next day when I return home on a good bed of coals. I then burn a hotter/faster load (2 if they are small) and reload at 10 pm again. It probably only produces good usable heat for 10-11 hrs. But I always have a good bed to relight on.

As for air operation, the max is the primary spring equal to the ash lip. Most times its like Dave stated. About a 1/4" open is my average

Can it be vented out the back? I need to go into my fireplace, up and out.
