You may want to look through this one

but with a space that small, I would be cautious about installing a stove into it.
What other sources of heat do you have for that area?

Usually leave the sliding door open to the rest of the house but when it gets real cold and for the fact I don't like to lose heat from the main part of the house just was wondering about something wood burning that could take place of the little electric "stove"

Have you considered a DIY solar air heater? There are several forums out there with good ideas, and they can be built cheaply. Then add electric for the night and cloudy days.

I made a "Sun Grabber" (google it) heater when I lived in South Carolina, and it kept one bedroom generally warm. The way the house was shaded, one room was all I could do, but it did help.

Like yooperdave , I wouldn't use a wood stove in there.

    I understand.

Do you have forced air heat or boiler heat for the house? Or is it all wood stove?

I've got propane fired boiler heat but since we installed the Lopi the only time the furnace goes on is maybe twice a year to keep it in working order :woodsign::fire:

May consider running another loop into your mud room? Or putting the mud room on it's own zone/t-stat if you have heat their already?

As tiny houses become more popular more and more "tiny" stove options are becoming available. Lots of options here including some designed for small boats:

I like Eric VW rocket mass heater idea:

    rocket stove mass heater

You could fire it once in the evening on little more than twigs/kindling and the mass would then give the heat back all night. Heck you could even make the mass into a bed shaped for the pooches.

I'm with yooperdave on this one, I'd run a loop into the mud room. It will cost some money but I can't see it being nearly as expensive as putting up a chimney and buying a stove. It wouldn't be as good as wood burning appliance though, that's fer true! And I'm pretty sure you are just lookin for an excuse to have more fire to play with! Which I can completely relate.

We had a Dickerson marine wood stove in our sailboat when we bought it. It worked not too bad but the best place to get the heat benefit was outside standing over the chimney. campinspecter took it out after it shot flames out at me during a downdraft gust. It probably needed more chimney and a boat that stayed more into wind at anchorage.

I agree with some that the room is too small for a stove. Like a few of the rocket ideas and a zone in that space.

We replaced the Dickinson wood stove with a Dickinson propane stove. It was kind of neat. Had a window in it so you could see the flame and a fan to move the warm air. the chimney was double walled so outside air was drawn in down around the chimney exhaust. I don't think ours was this big but this will give you an idea.
