Me too! My grandma used to say I could sell ketchup popsicles to little old ladies in white gloves. I of course, at the age of 8, said can I put you down for 10 boxes?

My earthquake has pretty good antivibe. Not like the wild things. It is riding on springs, it's a copy of a redmax.

Probably not the best antivibe ever, but I don't use these saws for hours on end. I have them for quick yard cleanup, or throwing on the truck to clean up a fence row or limbing.

The saw with the best antivibes is how to put your body when you working with saw , wrong body position and be sure that the antivibes can not help you , the next day you will be pain in all body

That said, for those who don't know me I also have decent saws too!!

I have some that come close to roughly 35 times what the earthquake cost me new. Haha

My suggestion would be used. I good used one here, esp if it were to wear a big bar for big stuff most the time. And just be used mostly for that

I'm just rereading some of the posts on the thread. Would the 6400 be a better "all around" saw with a 20" bar on it most of the time and in times when the 28" bar is needed it could handle that too? More than the 6100? what kind of money are we talking for the 6400?

I bought one of the dolmar (makita) 6421's from home depot last year. I paid 320 out the door with tax. It wears a 20 inch bar and has cut everything I've asked of it with authority. My buddy was cutting side by side with me and he was using a Stihl 441. We were always even with the cuts and my saw was a bit smoother. We were cutting some 18 inch black locust. Those are no joke. He tried the saw and loved it. It's a great saw and with the ability to make it an 80cc saw with a 200 dollar kit you can't go wrong. It sips gas too. I refill it half as often as my 036.

They just had some for sale locally at home depot if you want I could pick one up next time they are available and ship it to you.

6400 would be slightly heavier with a slight power advantage for probably a tad LESS money than a 6100. With a muffler gutting, the 6400 will be a much better saw wearing that 28" however. In the 6100s favor, it's a great 20" saw right out of the box. 28" is a lot of bar for it. It will probably run it but it's going to feel pretty underpowered if you use most of it.

I kept recommending the 6400 because of the occasional need to run a 28" and the extra power that's available after gutting the muffler. Also it's possible to swap the piston and cylinder out to make it a 79cc machine down the road. It will absolutely own that 28" then. (The 6400, 7310 and 7910 are all the same chassis.) The 6400 is also available wearing a blue suit as a Makita 6421, every so often they pop up for sale at Home Depot rental centers in good condition for cheap $$.

I think you would be happy with either model, especially with a 20" bar, and they certainly cost less than anything comparable from Stihl or Husqvarna.

As I read all the way through I got some suggested names as online "go to's" when it comes time to purchase.
Terry Landrum was one and Bob at Ashokan was another. Are there any other names I may have missed??
I decided to go new vs. used. I was able to bring my financing to around $700, but this has to include 2 bars and some chain.
    thanks fellas

fordf150 and millermodsaws are both great guys to work with.
I agree 28" bar is going to be better on the 6400.

Here is the 6100 pulling a 24" junk safety chain through a 20" + Hickory?

Was that hickory dead standing or green when it was cut up? Saw ran through it pretty well

Does $590 (ish) sound right for PHO for the 6400?

It's probably in the ballpark. I can get a 6100 with 20" B&C and a couple extra loops of chain out the door from my dealer for 550.

Depends. I'd like to see at least a 20" B&C on it for that but if that PHO shipped, it's probably in the ballpark.

From all the talk. I would go 6400 or the 6421 for the extra power. I personally would snap up one of those rentals for that money, seeing the quality of saw that some guys are getting from HD rental units. Use the extra money for the big bar and chain.
