Not knocking the idea. If I had a set up where I could just throw on a sharp one and do 2 or 3 in the a/c in the tool room. I would be down for that.

Nice work schlot. Your setup is very simply made and just with some scraps. At least you didn't have to pay a couple hundred dollars for the mill and still ended up with the same out come milled boards:yes::dex::axe::woodsign:

It's on the first page of posts...I used wood instead of steel with blocks that change out for different depths.

What size threaded rod are you using? 1/4" ? Or larger.

I'm actually useing 2" grade 5 bolts with a nut screwed all the way up so I got more meat there to weld to, and the bolt and nut will lie stright in the angle steel. Also a grade 5 bolt is way stronger than all thread. Yes sir 1/4 in.

Oh yeah. Use good washers one on top and bottom of bar with a lock washer between the bottom washer and nut. This will spread out the pressure, and protect your bar.

Does it "feel" rigid or secure enough for you? Just wondering if I would be good with 1/4" or bump up to 3/8" if/when I make a little mill unit such as yours.

I does feel good. I think that using blocks help to resist it from twisting out of plane as I push into the wood. I had a hole in my bar near the tip already that I used. It only could accept 1/4" which also was a factor.

Less drilling into my bar the better. :)

Made a slight modification in the guide board. Once I dropped the spacers down in depth to 2" I needed to make room for the brake.

Four 2" thick slabs so far! :)

Got a nice fat pine log ready to mill. Just been too dang hot 98 yesterday may hit 100 today with ridiculous humidity. I'm wanting some chainsaw fun. Does anyone else have this problem?

Definitely. I waited a couple days until it cooled down to mill those last couple slabs.
