I just used what I had in the clip, which was Federal automatch.
I got another one but I kind of screwed up, he went on his back and stopped moving, I thought he was done, I went over to find a good place to set down my gun and he was gone

He may still die. Once, years ago I took a shot at a groundhog at 140 yards with my .22. First shot landed about 20 yards behind him, I lowered my aim point and the 2nd shot landed 20 yards in front of him. The 3rd shot got him, he went limp and I started walking towards him. When I got within 40 yards and he saw me he started crawling back to his hole. Apparently I had just paralyzed his hind legs. By that point I was close enough to accurately hit him in the head, but I always wondered how long a partially paralyzed ground hog would make it in the wild. I doubt very long.

If you put a shot on him....he won't be long for this world unless you grazed him.

    Did you use the cantaloupe?

It's been a couple years since I got a whistle pig. They have become sneakier, or all moved into the woods here it seems. Only time I see them anymore it's usually in a place where I can't shoot them...like out back of my work in town.

I use the boresnakes. 1 pass is usually sufficient...sometimes 2. I put solvent on the area with the brush, and oil about 6" from the end of the tail. Scrub, wipe & oil all at once. I can run the snake through in the same amount of time it takes me to get sticks and patches ready. I have also recently started using the plastic & stainless dental picks and really like them for picking gunk out of the corners and tight spots. 22lr is a dirty round, and worse with a suppressor mounted.

Why do they call some of these ring mounts, Weaver?

I got my sweet 22 scope mounted and sighted in, it works as is but I don't like it so much.
I need to get some different mounts, because the objective end of the scope is so large it is hitting on the iron sights when I tried to move it back farther to get a good view, so I need to mount it higher so that I can slide the scope back further to get a better View.
Anyway, I'm confused on what will fit on that 3/8 dovetail.
Looking at these Weaver See-Thru Detachable Rings , because they are available locally

These are the ones that I ordered and mounted the scope with
.22 cal. Medium Sport Rings - 182870, Rings & Mounts at Sportsman's Guide

Why do they call some of these Weaver what does weaver mean?

In the picture it looks like the iron sight is touching the scope but it is not, just real close.
If I get the scope up higher I can move it back an inch or so and get a better View

Weaver is a standard for optics mounting. 3 types I'm aware of, weaver, 5/8 dovetail, and picatinny.

    Good reading here http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/lid=...y_Rails__Weaver_Rails__What_s_The_Difference_

It looks like you have the dovetail mount? Can't tell from pic. There should be mounting screws for mounting a weaver rail on top? Weaver is going to be more popular with more traditional rifles, where picatinny is more for tacticool stuff on the ARs & such.

You may need a high mount ring set if you stay with the dovetail. A weaver rail will net you a little more height off the receiver as it sits on top. If your receiver isn't tapped for a rail, there should be a weaver that will fit the dovetail. I'm afraid other than removing the rear sight (which isn't hard at all) or buying new rings or new rings and a rail.

Having the scope sit where the eye relief is comfortable for you is essential. When I'm mounting optics I put everything on loosely, take my perch on the rifle, then slide the scope forward/backward until the view through is open when I'm in my natural, comfortable position on the rifle. Dont want to compromise your hold on the gun trying to get your eye lined up for the scope. Mount the scope so it lines up with your eye if that makes sense.

    Thanks for the input
Yeah, that's why I have to do something else and fix this, because I have to cram the stock into my shoulder real hard and lean forward to get the proper eye relief and it's very uncomfortable.
When I was mounting the scope I knew it was not going to work out this way, but I went ahead and secured it down anyway, I wanted to go play with it:D
I ordered a pair of high see-through rings off Amazon they will be here tomorrow.
I was thinking about taking the rear sight off but it looks like you have to pry it off or something and wouldn't be able to put it back on, I don't really know how it comes off , probably never use it on this gun anyway, but if I can't get the scope where I want it with the different rings, I will take it off.
Yeah, it just has the 3/8 dovetail Mount, it isn't drilled and tapped at all. I could have that done if I really want to.

Forgot about the see thru rings. They should be a great solution for your issue!

You have the sweet 22 scope, so do you change the turrets?
I put on the 40 grain turret, I sighted the gun in at 50 yards loosened the three screws and lined up the 50 yard Mark with the mark on the scope body and tightened the screws back up.
So what is the procedure if I want to switch to 36 grain turret? the manual that comes with the scope is a joke, doesn't tell you how to change a turret and set it.
If I simply take one off and, put a different one on and line it up with the 50-yard mark and tighten the Screws, I have changed nothing, scope will still be in the same exact position?

I put on the 38 grain because it splits the difference. Even when shooting a 38 I don't think the turrets are all that dead on. Gimmick more than anything.

Im not sure if you have to rezero if you swap them.

Thanks, you know I have been thinking that maybe they are just kind of a gimmick, so I probably won't mess with them.
I really like the adjustable objective though.

Mounted the scope with the new see through rings, got the eye relief set real nice now.
Rigged up a shooting station using the bipod and a saw horse, chair was to tall, I had to sit on the bucket :)

It took a lot of rounds but I got it sighted in, 50 yards is as far back as I can get at my place.

Shooting at the center Target at 50 yards had a couple of Flyers but not bad.

I need to go shoot! Seeing those targets makes me want to punch some holes in paper. It is decided, I shall celebrate and exercise my 2nd Amendment right one day this weekend in support of Our Nation's Independence Day!
