I tried everything but heat when I traded trucks 11 years ago-ended up just leaving it and buying another insert. I got smart-my new insert is stainless steel and I take it out every winter when I don't tow.
I knew before I had entered a bid on my truck that it would be a problem, but with the warmer weather coming son, I'll find out just how much of a problem it will be!
The old 2 inch ball on the old hitch doesn't want to come off, I've used PB Blaster, WD40 and a some heat but the bast--- won't come off. I went into town today and bought a Reese Interlock Hitch Draw Bar with a new 2 inch Interlock Ball. I did get the receiver cleaned out real good and before I put the new Draw Bar I grease it all. I bought the Draw Bar with a 2 inch drop and flipped it, it's interlocked on both sides. That nut should come off easier being the ball assembly interlocks. Both are rated for 6000 pounds. I did spray the threads down with WD40 before I put it on. This will come off when I'm not using it.
Well, you're not alone I have had a couple of balls I could not get off even with a big giant wrench and a 6 foot bar on it. Looks like your Going to be all set now though
I had the wife out there yesterday, we had some pipe wrenches on it and I had the sledgehammer going, it still wouldn't budge.
if you wanted to save the draw bar you could take it to a welding shop and have them cut the nut off with the torch
Air chisel might do it too, I never thought of that before When I worked repair at Buick we had a great big air chisel, I know would have cut that sucker off
If you have access to an acetylene torch, heat that nut red hot, it will come off with a big wrench, maybe even a regular size wrench
That's what I did, didn't work but it might for you. Hook a winch or Come Along on that bar and get the hell out of the way Hack That might even work with just the pipe wrench
The bars out, it's the ball I want off. I'm soaking the nut on the threads of the ball in White Vinegar, I'll give it another try after we bake some bread tomorrow.
