    Hmm interesting. I guess anything that could lift one end would work if you put something under it for support which is a good idea anyway.

    On that note, using a farm Jack to get your log up on one end per mdavlee's suggestion, you could then support the log with cribbing and remove the Jack, no?

    Engine cherry picker, then crib it up and ditch the picker?

    Sink a 6x6 post in your milling area. Use a boat crank winch on pole, run cable up pole, thru a pulley, and back down to log? This assumes you mill in the same spot.

    Just throwing ideas out...I've never milled anything (yet)

    If the log is small enough a block or round and a longer piece to pry it up and then someone else puts the cribbing in
