As of right now HoneyFuzz , you've done exactly what I'm really good at. Take something like that apart and spread it all out to look at all of those parts... ... Right about now is where my panic would set in... ... I envy all you guys who know how to do this kind of stuff...
Took about 10 minutes with 320 emery cloth ....and 0000 steel wool....looks like new ! So in looks like ill just get a 44mm Meteor piston kit for now probably ! Sorry for the crappy pic . Maybe someone can add a bit on this. The piston and inside the cylinder both had like brownish black burn stains. Why is this ? And how do u clean inside the transfers ? Get all the gunk out. Open and closed ports... P.S..it's hard to take good pics of the inside of a cylinder lol !
If someone didnt say it already. Update it to the metal intake clamp. Those plastic pos clamps have killed many of saws when they warp from heat.
They were great, taught me how to fix the top ends, gut mufflers, tune carbs, etc. Never could get it to hang with the 346xp NE so I sent it down the road after enough run time that I was very confident in the build. X200 on the metal intake clamp
Before ...... In the middle of a dawn dish soap and hot water bath......I usually like simple green and frequent rinses on plastic...but im plum out After alot of scrubin...compressed air...and good old fashioned rag time Ordered up all the parts I should need for this. So hopefully more to come soon
I have a parts saw but I have taken some parts for my NASCAR 350 rebuild. Not sure about the muffler bolts.
HoneyFuzz, thanks for doing this thread! IF you don't mind would you share 2 more things.. 1) number of hours (guesses are fine) it takes you.. and cost of the parts... maybe it's me but I am often like I figure if I had ball park of time and money it would cost for a project BEFORE I started it might help me finish a few more thanks
If you dont go for porting work mufler modes and all theese you need about 30 minutes to assembey the saw maybe a little for the parts depent of if they are oem aftermarkets etc,etc anyway the Honeyfuzz make a very good and informative thread
Just recently finished a 350 rebuild. I had a 1998 model and my father had a 2004 model. They both eventually suffered from the leaky intake clamp problem, before I was aware of the issue. My father ran his into the ground, while I took mine out of service after having it to a shop with no results. They both sat for about a year and a half before I finally got around to doing the research. Originally, was going to put a 346 top end on my saw's chassis. Once I tore both the jugs off the saws, I was pleased to see that my P&C was still in pretty good shape. My father's...not so much. I then came up with the idea for Frankensaw. My 350 had seen much more usage than my father's and his was in good shape other than the toasted P&C. His was the "dished" version and mine is a flat top. I fitted my P&C plus a new ring, retainers, rubber lines, improved intake, and carburetor off my saw to the '04 chassis and now have a running saw. This was my first "rebuild" and I am still trying to get it dialed in just right on the tuning. Pretty happy with the outcome. I did delete the base gasket as well. No other mods at this point. My 550xp makes the 350 show it's age a little, but I'll hang onto it for sentimental reasons and the fact that they are great saws.
