I had that for years. Then when I had the OS software update issue, that froze the screen on start up, I had to work with the Genius Bar folks and the Apple forum. It became clear that the AV for Mac was part of the problem, I was directed to remove it as it was contributing to the issue. Even after I did, there were more files that had to be painstakingly removed individually. That was last Spring, Apple tech's insisted the AV program was totally unnecessary. After so many years of Winblows I feel naked without something at least looking like it's protecting the computer.

where I live, the mere forecast is enough to bring out the salt...
In a short while, the roads look like the ones in Florida. WHITE!

Vehicles here disintegrate before they quit running.

I had posted about my project to restore the Farms truck. These U bolts that hold the axle to the rear suspension looked like they needed replacement right off. Notice the rear post on the left side is completely gone. I recently received a frame from Oklahoma to replace the original, which had begun to have rust through spots. Salt sucks! I plastered the under carriage with a product called FluidFilm, I'm testing it this winter. You have to apply it yearly at about $40 a gallon. It took about 1/2 a gallon. Won't wash away and stops any oxidation of the existing rust...so they claim.

I was on to that until I got the replacement frame, as it has a great reputation. I will however be starting with everything apart as there's only surface rust, so I will sand blast it off start with bare metal and use a product/System I got from Eastwood:

Eastwood Internal Frame Coating Green Unreachable interior areas
Eastwood After Blast - Metal Prep
Epoxy Primer Black w/Catalyst Quart Kit
    Extreme Chassis Black Satin Quart
Tank Tone Metallic Coating Aerosol 13 oz (
    Fuel Tank exterior)

its an '08 subaru legacy with 160,000 miles. Doesn't do much to excite me, never has but it always gets me where i'm going. Its easier to take care of a car that you actually want. I am in the market for a new car probably sometime this year or early next. The salt actually hasnt done anything to it yet. no rust spots. I use dedicated snows on steel rims and this car has been out in the nastiest weather. Been through floods, overflowed rivers, hurricanes. used to commute 1.5 hrs each way to work with it in blizzards.

They use so much salt here I joke about deer following me down the road trying to lick my car.

That is what I would have used if I wasn't replacing the frame.

Well, went to TSC today and this is what they had for pellets. I burned some of these last year and if I remember correctly they weren't too bad, but I honestly don't remember.

Nice. Sounds like you are going to do it right. :salute:

When I did the Sportage 4x4 frame here w/ POR, I didn't sandblast, but it was a multi-day marathon of scraping, wire brushing, sanding, wiping/degreasing, and painting w/ POR - like anything, proper prep is the key. That it's held up this long (7+ years now) and protected so well is a real testament to the product.

POR isn't cheap, some consider it expensive, but the stuff works, takes hellish abuse, and lasts for years.

It's on my list of things-to-do for Summer of 2016, to fully POR the undercarriage of the '00 Camry here.
