Its a definite difference. But the 660 is heavy and when your not bucking big wood your holding it!!! Its a BIG heavy saw ESP with that bar. The unmodded quake is not worth pulling out but with a gutted muffler its a capable saw!! Seriously. Look in my sign line I have a few decent saws to compare to. I'd have to put it up there neck n neck with the 445 I have. Now if I delete base gasket .... its worth the $49 for it. I would not normally use it like I did in the video that was for testing. I also would not normally use a 650 with a 32" bar for a tree like that either.

I just ordered a 32" bar today for my 460, it wont get much use but need it fora big oak we will be taking out at my uncles. Need to get the rest of the locust split and stacked then I will be able to head over and take out that tree.

Wow that's a lotta bar, even on a 460. Might want to consider the high-output oiler for it. That saw ran a 28" 95% of the time I had it here. It oiled ok, I would take more if I could get it but I ran the oiler on max. You switched to canola oil now right? Be interesting to see how it does with that.

You going to swap the 7 pin rim back on and run skip chain?

Ya will run the 7 pin with the bigger bar, just pulled it out last night and put it in my tool bag. Good thought on the oiler, I didnt think of that. Will check on how the canola does with the setup. I ordered the big bar cause this is a big oak and I want to be able to get through it easily. I also have a few monster silver maples in my yard that are old and I worry about them coming down. If they do in want to have the equipment needed to take care of them.

Stihl labels the 460 to run up to a 32" bar. So I wouldn't worry to much. Keep the oil cranked up, put the 7 pin on it, and letthe saw do the work.

The 460 I got from Devin86 here, I sold to my buddy down the road. He uses a 36" on it with no problems yet (full skip).

Now back to your regular scheduled programming. :)

Ordered a replacement muffler off ereplacement parts for the 3814. This saw looks and I believe has the same muffler as a ryobi saw. Think I read that on AS. The ryobi saw is made by redmax which this is a copy of. I got a new one shipped for about $14. Catch is it must be comeing from china to send to me as it said order ships in 2 weeks. Hoping to muffler mod the new muffler which won't have a Cat in it and see similar gains to the 4500. If I was not so cheap I would of bought the USED one off eBay for $20 but as long as it takes to get to things these days I can wait. No biggie. Ihavhave other stuff to mess with in the mean time.

You know I will post my results!

The 4518 is a copy of the GZ 4000. Or so it's been said. I know they look the same. And yes, Ryobi has a copy of the 45cc also.

Not sure on the 38, but I would guess it's the same.

The 3814 is a copy of the gz4000 down to the long muffler. But the 4518 is maybe a larger displacement copy with a different muffler.

As for my 4518 chain brake I pulled the loop out of the cover, lightly bent back round, at least I think I did?? Then used the Dremmel (HF copy) and removed the high spot it was hitting. It is working now. The tiny spot it was hitting will wear in themselves, and is no worse than the other 4518.

I have a MM 'quake (4518) here right now and my MS230 spanks it in just about every way. And the 230 is pulling .325" chain too.

Finally got a chance to test compression on my personal 4518. Not what I washopeing. Looks like its time to saybyebye to base gasket.TThis saw has zero time in wood. No dust anywhere. I'm sure it was started but this is the saw where the chain brake was binding the clutch drum, which I'm 99% certain that is why it was returned. I have one tank plus through it. Piston looks brand new no scratches. I am running husky semi syn oil mixed @32:1 that was added to a jug with about a pint of woodland pro syn oil mixed @50:1.

I'm sure rings are not seated yet but was hopeing for better than 145psi!
