    Had those below zero° periods.
I have some big splits in the wood box that I keep passing over
knowing the cold will be back.
2 big rectangle splits in the middle of the new load help it burn longer

3° here now, with a forecast low of -2°.
That means it'll actually get down to either -2, or -10.
    Very cold, either way.
    Full on Oak loads.
Went to pick up my wife from work, but forgot to load the stove earlier and didn't want to right before I left.
House was down to 67, not bad, but 64 by the time I got back about 45 minutes later.
In 45 minutes, the stove would melt into the floor w/o a bit of attention.
1.5 hours later, and we're almost back to 69°.

So, accuweather is telling me it's still 3°, but my outside probe thermo says -4° already.
This should be fun. I couldn't do this very well w/o the Oak.

    Cold there, mild here. :)

Was outside most of the day playing, fire in the fire pit.
Beer stayed cold, watched the stars come out.
kept adding wood to the fire.
    back in a 7:00 pm.

Up to 34° today, 28° now, nice day. Just need more daylight.
hoping for more than 2" tonight.

So it's 13f. and no colder predicted overnight. This goofy stove will overburn with more than 4 splits in it, so the night-night load is two fat black locust splits and a white ash in the lower front to start the BL. It will burn all night through the cat, enough heat to keep the propane furnace from starting (that's most important) with an adequate bed of coals to restart tomorrow A.M. No matter that the bedrooms are in the lower 60's: we have comforters and sleeping in cool air is more comfy. Next week's forecast is in the below zero for overnights and the stove will burn but may need a bit of help from the propane furnace. Life is good.

Supposed to get double digit negative early next week. That's about as bad as it gets around here.

Forecast starting on the 9th is for temps in the 30's until close to the end of the month.
    I'll take it.
I don't, however, believe it. Seeing, is believing.
If it's close to those temps, the wood shed gets a reprieve, and so do I.

Minus -13 with winds at 21 - 25 which puts the wind chill at - 40.

The combination of the wood stove and the pellet stove going in the basement had the livingroom at 69 & the bedroom at 68.

Those readings for our area are taken from the Massena Airport, so I think we're a touch warmer, more inline with Saranac Lake NY, they're at -12 with winds at 9 making the wind chill - 30, I'll take that 10 degree swing. :zip:

The long range forecast here is for above average temps into Feb once past this cold blast. Highs in the 40s after next Wed. See how that pans out.

The temp has climbed up a bit. Now at -2 F, Snowing and a bit of wind. Wife wanted to go out for breakfast and go to Sams Club. Now back home. Very thankful to be back inside wher it is warm. I told her that is the last time I am going out shopping again until the temp warms up some and the wind cuts back.
Daughter called, No hot water. Their furnace has gone out again, the second time this week. The furnace man was there most of the afternoon on the 31st, but what ever they did then didn't keep it going. Who knows, could be a whole new problem. It is one of those furnaces with the power vent. Uses PVC for a chimney. I think they make an acid in some condensate that erodes the furnace over time. Who ever built the house put it in thinking he would get out of the need of installing a conventional chimney.

I've had a power vented boiler for the last 17 years one was a gas fired unit and the other is an oil fired unit. The only issues I've ever had with those boilers was loose connections on the controls. Whoever thinks that quick connects are wonderful needs to be seen by a competent shrink and then locked up. After the third service call on the gas unit I told the guy to do a soldering job, end of calls. Neither of the units were condensing boilers.

31°f here, 20% chance of snow.
Wish we were getting hit like the N-East .
    Have fun

Burning the misshaped splits. Don't stack as tight in the stove but
get thru the mid 20° nights well.
    House 73° this AM

Youns are getting a real winter this year.
Makes a wood stove and good firewood a great thing to have.

Nice to go stand by the stove to soak the bones full of heat :)
Can't do that with other types of heat
