Not yet waiting for the wifey to get home, she was interested in seeing what everyone's input was last night so I figure I'd be nice n wait for her before I light it up lol
You made the right call on that one, mister! Glad you've got her involved too.... Mine has been learning too, and she gets to see lots of the posts here as well.
Must have... I don't read any "papers". . Funny thing is, I wear slippers about 1 day a year, and I just happened to be wearing them right now when reading that post. Even more amazing is the fact I have black socks on. I don't think I have ever worn that combo EVER before. Talk about coincidence. Now for sure, Nicolas will be confused!
Ya I'd build these nice fires in fireplace but no heat would be put out and u would hear wood sizzling the entire time .
Now to get really technical, what method of starting are you using? Woodheat.org. has a few good ideas on that, some here also if you dig a little. I like the "Top Down" approach but with average wood the "Tunnel of Love". Might be better... maybe take a pic just before you set a match to it tonight.....
papadave has been setting up spy cams surreptitiously And pipelining info for a few days now. Shhhh- don't tell him I told you....
I use the little tiny starter bricks not the huge duraflames their mini little bricks like 4 inches big...light that and put the wood on top once it catches
Yes, Nicholas62388's wife will really think he's going crazy taking a pic of an unlit fire Ahhh, the ambiance....
good choice with wife and thread hi Jacks are common especially with long timers that joke around.. in 6 months you will be somewhat addicted and read new guys post and at them. oh if you put some of the outside top wood on a rack next to stove it will be ready in no time..
If your not familiar with these methods just say so with an @ bobdog2o02 with no space in it and I'd be happy to build both and take pics to post, I'll be lighting up in a few hours anyway as our house temp drops after dark here. Bte, are you in bucks county pa?
Doesn't really matter for all intent and purpose, except that the fireplace chimney is WAY more ptone to a chimney fire than a wood stove with a lined chumney.... which makes it even more important to make sure you have good wood.
