4-6 cords/ year. I'm the caretaker/pastor, the plastic on the windows makes the biggest difference. Adding a ceiling fan to the stove room made the next biggest. I'd like to insulate better, but due to money, I get to do more repairs to stuff that was ignored/hacked than real progress. 4-6 cords/ year, we keep it at 60 at night and 64 during the day. I'm the caretaker/pastor so all expenses are paid by the Church. I scrounge the wood to save the church money. The plastic on the windows makes the biggest difference. Adding a ceiling fan to the stove room made the next biggest. I'd like to insulate better, but due to money, I get to do more repairs to stuff that was ignored/hacked than real progress. This past spring I replaced the main sewer pipes, the old duct tape just couldn't stop the rotten cast iron from collapsing. (I found the leak when a drain backed up) project took a week, with no water in the house.. Some projects make me want to renovate with matches...

I heat around 2600 sq ft brick ranch style house from the basement with a 3.2 cu ft Myriad stove. I have a very well insulated house and energy efficient windows. Stove heat comes up thru the wood floors and a couple vents in the floor just from natural convection. The stove can keep the center of the house main floor in the low 70's by morning day light and the outer ends of the house will be 67-68 in the mornings if you leave the bed room doors open as I tell my kids. I dont use any blowers or fans radiant heat works best in my setup.
Dont know if you remember but over the summer I took out all my firebrick and put 1/4" ceramic insulation behind them and under them plus add the new row of bricks on top of the first row.
80K BTU sounds like a beast (and like you need that output!) Culmstock is about 10miles (ironically miles is still the most used unit of distance-go figure!) so very close by
Mine Stove: Woodstock Ideal Steel Stove Location: our 500 sq ft garage we converted to a family room this year. (1st time wood-burner) Stove is not centrally located, so I use a box fan or two to blow cooler air into the family room. We have a 36" door that goes to the back bedrooms, and we had the contactor cut a 5 x 7 opening in the garage wall into our existing living room. Total Approx House Area: 2,350 sq ft ranch on a concrete slab built in 2001. Stove Room Temp (Assuming External temp of 40 F): usually around 80 lol. Extremity of House temp: this would be our master bathroom. Probably around 70 when the outside temp is 40. Supplementary Heating: forced-air heat pump with bottled propane back-up that kicks on once the temp drops below 30 outside. House Insulation: Whatever r-value 2x4 wall studs have (r-12?) and pretty thick blown-in insulation for the attic. Our windows are the builder-grade double-pane vinyl Windows. This is where we have opportunities for efficiency. Pic from this am. Toasty warm!
Thanks! No need for jealousy, lol. You have a great set up yourself! If I remember correctly, you had that great covered bridge art.
oh yeah I want to re-do the corner hearth and run river stone up behind it. I love all IS pic and most every stove your hearth and wall and placement and color Coordination are just
Have had the OWB for about 9 years now, just put in the pellet burner last year. I cut some wood when they let me run a chainsaw buy a little and I have a buddy that cuts me 2-3 cord a year just for something to do. Gary
Absotively Dennis. I've considered installing something like these around the perimeter of the foundation.......http://www.menards.com/main/foundat...4444176542-c-9532.htm?tid=2462043442810550722
