If full time on a mill and not much in the woods use a muffler mod to the left on the face of the muffler will get it up in the air. Every other direction hits mill or the log and back at you besides making a longer one down the right side from the original opening.
Foragefarmer, Where in central Virginia are you located? Have you been to any of the AS GTG's? Good job bringing this saw back from the dead. I would love to pick up a project saw like this.
Just depends on the price relative to the completeness of the saw. I have plenty of tools, a mill, a lathe and can tig weld aluminum pretty well. Here is the crank case cover of a kawasaki quad I repaired a couple years ago. Kid is still riding it with no leaks to this day. So, what you got. .
Nice handiwork, ja_cain Laying over a stack a dimes That's how my welder Uncle describes a nice tig weld.
Thanks man. It would have welded much nicer if I had taken the time to bake out the oil. He needed it back asap so he could use it when he dear hunts, so I didn't have a lot of time to prep it. The cast aluminum crank cases are pretty porous, so there is a lot of residual oil even if you clean the surface real good with acetone. It was definitely boiling the oil out some while I was welding it. I just picked up a parts cleaner that should make cleaning parts of saws much easier.
Your parts cleaner is like my table saw ja_cain! It serves 2 purposes, one of which is the inevitable "table"....
I may have a 365 husky project I will part with. I have 3 of them actually.,going to try to build all 3 but probably run out of time. It will be a few weeks before I go through all the stuff and get a real good inventory of it all.
I would love to find a big saw like the op has, to run on a mill. Im not sure i really want to spend $1000+ on a new 661 or 390/395, but do need to get something soon to do some milling. Is the 365 a special or the newer x-torq model with the transfer baffles? My buddy has a 372 project saw that he said he will give me, but may still be interested in the 365 regardless of which one it is. Thanks again for the potential offer. Just let me know if you want to unload it. What you thinking on price and can you post some pics of these saws?
I maybe able to get most of a 395. It needs a cylinder but should have the rest. The 365 are the specials. When I get home in a few weeks I'll dig the stuff out. Right now I've got a big plastic tote full and another box with that stuff.
