What do you use for cleaning?

You are a bit more along in the age related side of things than I am. I also don't wear glasses. As for best being prepared my spare parts supply is in the area under the cats window bench in the same room as the stove. So far I've only used two combustion blower gaskets, I did however wreck more than that on the convection side. That side of things has a nice silicon rubber gasket now and it no fall apart . When the one goes pffft on the combustion blower side it too will get replaced with something that lasts.

While I'd like to be able to like your post I can't, the Beers are for after the cleaning, we don't need any mistooks while cleaning you might get hurt.

I don't have a leaf blower and it is time to clean the chimney. I am going to buy a cheap brush at Lowes and start with that and my vacuum. Time to do this today. I gave it a once through with the cap off the bottom before and a rod with an old brush on it but that did not work very good. How do you guys clean the horizontal from where it hooks to the stove and through the wall to the clean out?

 

Gas, if you can swing it, try picking up one of those leaf blowers....not only will your vent get clean but a good portion of your stove too. If you can't get one, you'll need to try and get a shop vac in that horizontal section to get the ash out. If you haven't done that section yet, you probably have quite a bit of ash in it.

 

I here ya. My question is: Is there a way to clean the horizontal section without disconnecting stove? Or do you think leaf blower would suck/clean all that out?

 

once you run the brush through the vent, the leaf blower does an AMAZING job pulling the ash out....I have a brush that I run in from the cleanout cap towards the stove...it takes a little to make the bend but it goes through it.

 

I have 3" pipe kit I bought at lowes.

Here is a flex-rod they sell, brush. And they told me they don't sell anything to connect them to drill with, and they don't sell a solid section of rod that would screw into these fittings.

So I said okay. Thanks. Then went down to their hardware isle and bought these to threaded fittings and a piece of all thread.

Some of the employees don't have much time or experience. LOL

Time to get cleaning.

 

That'll work! Yeah, big box stores help sometimes leave a lot to be desired. When they ask if they can help me I always say "no thank you"! lol

 

Done for now. Everything but the horizontal section completed. Got real dark quick. I got the vertical section nice and clean right up around the bend and outlet. But I decided I think the easiest way to do the horizontal is to just disconnect the chimney and take it right off, then clean the horizontal from out there with brush and shop vac. Let me tell you, when I wound that drill up with it attached to brush some chit went flying! LOL it did a nice job of brushing the inside of the pipe. Cleaned everything in the stove real good. It is cold hear.

 

This is the only way to go!

 

I never disconnected my stove....the leaf blower after a cleaning is the only way to go in my opinion. Well worth the money. And if you are really ambitious you could actually use it to clear leaves....but that seems a bit crazy

 

Horizontal out of stove, through wall, clean out and 90 go straight up about, aaaa maybe 4 feet.

 

What do I use for cleaning???

Bought wifey a bucket and a mop for Christmas!!

 

Watch out for the cast iron skillet on the back of the head as her way of saying "thanks....NOT!"
