No they really don't do they? lol The machine was made in 1970.......and spent many years in a barn. We've got it drained........and have been rinsing with gas, and air pressure. I'm sure it's never gonna be "good enough", but maybe it will be better. I'll put a see thru filter between the tank and the pump. That way I can see when it's becoming an issue.
You should not be using compressed air. A spark can come out of your blow nozzle plus you adding oxygen to a place that gas has been in.
In most cases, rust and sediment particles will get stopped by the fuel filter system but the issue that can be a bugger is when the finger screen in the tank gets stopped up. I've had to blow air backwards through the fuel line to clear these types of clogs. (algae can block the screen too or a mix of algae and rust particles). I've had success cleaning these tanks of algae and rust using the aforementioned technique of agitating the fuel and then sucking it out.
I'm no chemist but maybe there is a way to dissolve the rust without attacking the steel of the tank?
I've only seen it happen a couple of times. I'm not sure why it happened. I think both times the compressor was running, I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.
Could be static build up in the hose, especially if it's PVC. Or from accidental contact of a steel blow gun to a steel tank.
Well I got my tractor repaired. I had to replace the seals where the brake shaft goes thru the bottom of the rear diff case. I had to drop the frame of the loader about 6 inches in order to get the shaft out and replace the seals. Sure am glad I got it done and everything is working great. It is a 72 Ford 2000 3cylinder gas. Everything works great on this baby.
Hey thanks Gasifier. It was a little more involved than I originally thought. But done and no more leaks.
I did that repair to a Ford 4000. Got the shaft seals replaced and about two years later got the rest of the tractor put back together. One thing led to another and then to another... Just got a power steering kit in the mail today for that same tractor.
I think it is static electricity or something else. I forget what I was blowing off but I did not bump it with the blow nozzle plus it has a rubber tip.
