I was at my Harman dealer and was discussing my unsuccessful dismantling of the exhaust fan on my Accentra FS stove. I've tried heat, acetone/power steering mixture, PB blaster and other premium penetrating oils with no luck at dismantling fan off the motor shaft, I even broke a allen key in the process. He mentioned of trying a wood stove glass cleaner. He says it breaks down the soot & creosote and frees up the strangle hold of the nut on the shaft. He also mentioned the tightness of the set screw would be high in the first place so be prepared for that too. Further talking about my stove not performing like it use too, he mentioned the exhaust fan is getting tired and not spinning as fast as before. By doing a draft test, maybe the #'s are not what it used to be. I want a vacuum gauge for christmas to see for myself. I still have to get around of changing my door seals, just waiting for a rise in the temperature to jump to it. Have a good and safe X-mas everyone!
Keep us posted. I wanna change my door seals at the end of the season. Is there a time period on changing the gaskets?
I'm wondering the same thing about my exhaust fan. I don't seem to be getting than air like I used to and my ash is blacker than normal. I thought it might be my door seals and had them replaced with only a slight improvement. I also can't seem to get the set screw out of the fan like you.
Spray w/ PB blaster the day before (if possible). Then a propane torch w/ small flame and heat the fan hub....try to stay away from the allen screw. Oh, BTW, don't know if dealer confirmed that the set screw is really an allen, but some set screws are actually torx screws.....the one on my comb. fan is.
I had a problem with the set screw on my sisters 68. I was scared to break anything. I gave one last crank before giving up, and it finally came loose. Shouldn't be a problem anymore. Mine comes off easy.
Hello I worked on an old PP38 and could not get the impeller blade off! So I removed the bolts that held the motor to the stove body. Then I took out the old hand held hack saw and cut the shaft. Installed a new motor and new impeller blade! Problem solved! ! !
if I had to guess, around 80% of them wont come off easily at all. When we do a repair, we first determine if the blower is good or not...if it is NOT good, spend maybe a minute trying to get it off.....if not, rotozip the shaft off, replace fan AND impeller. Time is money here, guys, and when you do this for a living, it just isn't worth wasting all that time........
A time waster, yes but spare motor if the new one fells. I just did a cleaning and installed the new gaskets. Made a difference, hard to say. I was not impressed with the cement supplied with the rope, just too runny. I also switched to Ambiance pellets from Trebio's.
