Ja. Someone pointed that out to me about ballast already. I doubt I will be lifting that much. I am thinking closer to the 3-600 lb range. Not sure. I have to figure out how much wood will fill this. Not done yet. But getting there.

Using old pressure treated from an old deck. Pulling nails and bolts was fun.:zip:

Now the sides and a tool box up on top. I'll be making some sort of back for it that will slide on some how and tie the sides together so the are strongly tied to each other when wood is loaded.

Pretty strong the way it is now. Lags to the frame. Heavy decking screws holding it together.

The frame of the carry all weighs 75 lbs. The wood is oh, approximately 125 lbs when I'm all done.? So there is 200 lbs. White Ash weighs in at 3,485 lbs. per cord. The wood box will hold right around 0.35 cord. Inside dimensions are almost 5'x3'x3' or 0.35 cord. So 3,485 x 0.35 =

    Um. Equals o_O 1219lbs.

Holy chit! Now add the 200 lbs. in and you have 1419lbs.!!!

:emb: Looks like maybe I won't be fillin her the whole way! LOL

Ifin I did my figgurin right Clem. I haven't used that slide rule in a long azz time ya know.

I'm not real familiar with the Fords, but most tractors have a way to hang cast iron weights or bolt steel plate onto the front end. You can build your own counterweights like a steel box full of concrete, etc. if you happen to have the owners manual, it should tell you how much ballast you need up front to compensate for a full load on the 3 pt.

I have never seen weights that hang on the front of these old Fords. I have seen that on many tractors, but not the old Fords like the 9Ns and now this Powermaster. That doesn't mean they don't exist. Just that I have never seen them. There are some holes through the frame that go out to the wheels on both sides. I guess I could come up with something that could hang on a large bolt that went throug those holes on both sides. Be cool if I could fab up a box that would hang on the front and put wood in that for the counterweight!

With no power steering a load on the front will give your arms a workout.

I think that those Fords could be equipped with the pie section front wheel weights.

Will be interesting. If I could load say 700 pounds of wood in the back, I would think just 250 hanging off the front would keep the front down because of the distance from front to rear axle being greater than distance from wood box to rear axle. And like pointed out earlier, the arms for the three point hitch are hung just in front of the rear axle. I don't know if I will get time to work on something this weekend or not. Looks like possible snow coming. Hopefully not much here. But I will need to concentrate on getting more wood out and not fabricating something. Not enough time in these short days. I can always see what I can get away with on the box with no weight at first. Just don't load too much and work with it and see. Can always throw some weight off if I have to. Can't wait till Saturday. Might get time to try it out.

Are there any holes on the front of the frame? If so, can you use them along with the side holes you mentioned to mount a box you could hang satchel weights from? Being able to easily remove the weights for the times you don't need them will make it easier to steer & decrease the amount the front tires will try to dig in. The weight box could also give you another place to put a chain for when you are not using the carry all.

Another option would be to mount tubing to the sides & have a slide in & pin weight.

The carry all looks great! :D They are mighty handy.

There are several holes I could use for adding weight. I will look into this tomorrow or Friday. I am going to try going out with the tractor tomorrow and cut some wood. See how it does in the snow and how the box does with half a load of wood in it.

Here are a couple pics I took today. I just wanted to start the tractor up and run it to charge the battery. It started, no problem, in this cold.

I need to adjust the top link to level the box out. I just put some 3-1 on it and put it in the vice and loosened it up good the last time I had it in the garage.
I'm going to add some holders to the box like in the video I posted before. I want to be able bring my chainsaw, a heavy pry bar, a rake, a shovel, etc. I have put chains in the top tool box already. Will also use box to do some other types of work as well. Landscaping stuff mostly.

My grandfathers Ford was a 9n, it had a bumper like this one that he kept a lot of chain wrapped around. It looks like yours has similar mounting holes. I kind of recall him saying it was for weight. It obviously isn't going to balance out 1200 pounds but every little bit helps. And the front mounted ball that can be put on the bumper used to come in very handy if you wanted the trailer but there was something using the three point (like the sickle bar that stayed on all summer). I think I pushed the trailer more than I pulled it.

You sure that's not a 8N? The color scheme is wrong for the 9N but dead on for the 8N.

Those front bumper/frames are nice. I should see if I can get one fabricated up and have a receiver built into the center of it. Then I could use it for a variety of things. Adding weight, moving things around with trailer hitch mounted, etc.

I'm not sure at all. You know a lot more then I do about identifying them. You mentioned 9N above so I googled it and that image appeared which is what I remember my grandfathers Ford looking like so I figured it was a 9N.

Well I got started on some wood with the tractor. Half a load first. No weight on front end. Got it out of the woods but just a half load is already effecting the steering. I know. :emb: You told me. Shut up.

I started looking at the holes and figuring out how to make a frame for weight and possibly other things. But now that I see woodlands dire predictions for weather for us I have moved the generator and gas to the top of the list. Once I get that ready I may go in to a spot with the truck to get a quick load out. We will see. Tractor did well in the snow. But need to get counter weight. Not worth going in for that 1/2 load. Fun, but need more wood! :D

Maybe I'll go in and skid some logs out instead.

They look very similar with the color scheme being the main identifier. 9N's were gray on gray, barely post-WWII and there were not a lot of them built compared to the later 8N's.

    How's your memory? 9N's were a 3 spd and 8N's were a 4 IIRC.

Cleaned it up a bit in the heated garage today. Got a second half load out after I filled three more 5 gallon jugs with gas for the generator. I have 25 gallons of gas on hand not counting the tank full in generator, tractor, and mowers. LOL I should drain those mowers.

4 speed it was. And the paint was red and grey, similar to gas's Powermaster. So it must have been an 8N.
