On a stock saw, a weak to average roll out on the recoil will start the saw.

Brad Snelling had a video of his 8 year old daughter starting a Dolmar 421 with Easy Start.

I found that video. It does look like it is easy to start.

I am thinking of selling it , it is not broken in so that could be the problem it has a 16'' .325 63ga is the 3/8 lp you have the same as the chain on the ms170 or is there a different gauge ,the catalog raises more questions than answers, thanks for the reply.

Different gauge. The 170 usually runs .043 while I'm running .050. The 63PS chain I use is some pretty hungry stuff. Smooth and fast.

Run a little more fuel through that saw and see if you like it any better. ;)

In order to change the chain gauge you also will need to change the bar. Each bar is designed for a particular gauge. Your dealer may have been trying to save you the cost of a new bar.

thanks oldman, im aware of the bar and sprocket needing to be changed but did not know there were different low profile gauges, he did say i did not want regular 3/8 when i asked if the 261 used the same size chain as my other saws , just did not want another file size , the more i try to simplify thing the more complicated they seem to get , its my fault for not asking more questions when i bought it , im sure he would have set it up with a different bar and chain for the same price , i got a decent discount on the saw , as i said they are good to me there as i have bought a lot of stuff other than saws , i was expecting this thing to be like my old 346 husky but the bar change may be the answer .

It's of no real use to me so if you're interested, send me your zip code and I'll check on the shipping costs.

The .050 PS/PS3 will be a wider kerf than the .043 PMM series chain. In order to convert the 261 to Picco (PS/PM/PS3) chain you need a special bar that's not a very common part. In fact, this isn't a common setup on a saw this big. There hasn't even been a chisel chain available in 3/8" Picco until the last couple years.

    Here's the complete setup.

    Rim is 0000 642 1240

    Chain is 63 PS - 60

    Bar is 3003 000 6313

My small saw is a Husky 445 that I enjoy running a 20" bar on. I use Lowe's bought Husky chain on it and it pulls, oils fine. Great for up to 18" felling, bucking and limbing. Easy on the starting, a little picky on hot restart after 3 years in, but not terrible- and my shoulder ain't too good either! Nor my lower back, or the pre-emergent inguinal hernia:eek:
