I've gotta to replace the lower deck for the pool. The Uncle's wood finally rotted out. The good... He's got two outside beams of metal on the outside and three wood beams that help stabilize the interior. But I think I'll be adding a few more since he used 3" tongue & groove wood. Questions. How far on the spacing for like 2x6 on the bottom side? It's got about 16 foot span. Can I use 2x6 and be fine with a finished surface? The Aunt wants to piece it in. But I'm thinking that I'm going to replace all 16' at one time. I'll try to get posture tomorrow....
I have no deck experience though other projects I have repaired by piece in the past I wish I had done the full replacement. Happy Father's Day friend
I'll measure tonight. I'm already planning on closing that gap on down just want to make sure its the right distance the first time. But the Uncle worked construction and got this tongue and groove it looks like 3x6 and it was untreated. And it was fine until wood rot... Me either, that why I'm seeing what others have thoughts on. I just cant see replacing only 3/4 when another 4 ft will do it all...
So you have three steel beams and two wood beams, and you will be putting new beams in between each? So the distance between beams (new or old) will be 2' rather than the existing 4'?
Yes and yes... She's wanting to do it in the least amount as possible. Otherwise I'll be putting money into from my pocket... Unless you all think like decking boards would be suitable for this.
I think you are on the right path. 4' span for 2x deck boards will result in a lot of deflection and bounce. You should be happy at 2'.
