Changing Hydraulic Oil on splitter ,need some Info ??

That's cool, I may get one of those because from what I understand the oil drain for the engine is hard to get to, the engine oil looks real good that is in there but I will be changing it anyway.
Where did you buy yours at?

OK, Got her all fixed up, fluid didn't look very good that's for sure.
I drained the tank as good as I could, but it was still not all out so, I jacked up the other side and sucked out the rest with my little pump Deal, together with that and the instructions from Elderthewelder I think I got all the old oil out pretty darn good.





What a freaking mess trying to pour that oil out of that pale, after trying three different funnels the best one that I could find to work was a 2 liter pop bottle cut off
Wow it takes a lot of pulling on that cord to extend or retract that cylinder, pain in the azz but I got it fixed up like it should be, oil is nice and clear and it is working great now.
So now, anyone have any ideas what I am going to do with all this old oil, I think the auto parts stores will only take used motor oil but I'm not sure

yeah you had some water in there that's for sure. how much Hydraulic fluid did it take? See you went with the Fram filter.

 

they take hydraulic fluid, but wont if it has water in it. My local Autozone lets me go back in the back and dump my fluids by myself where as others take the fluids and dump it and they can see if water is in it. Try your local autozone and play dumb if they ask about water

 

yeah I went with the Fram filter because that's what they had at Tractor Supply for it, I may order a Wix and replace it later.
That sucker took all 5 gallons of the fluid

 

I'm happy it is done, and I got that out, not good having that kind of crap in there.
Purging the cylinder like that did good there was a lot in there

mine takes 9.5 gallons when doing the entire system

Hydraulic System Capacity (including cylinder, tank, hoses, and filter) . . . 9.5 gallons

 

the manual says to fill it with 3.5 to 4 gallons of fluid, but in the specifications it says total hydraulic capacity 5 gallons, anyway after I put all 5 gallons in the fluid was at the top mark on the dip stick.
Like I said they Manuel is kind of flaky I would think that they would have instructions how to change the oil in there too but no

 

Good Preventive maintenance
Fluid should last you a long long time if you can keep the water out.

 

I could see the water bound up with that heet stuff I put in there.
I don't know how that much water got in there but I'm sure power washing it didn't help
well I know that the fluid is not doing its job properly with that water in there.
Good thing is the engine oil looks almost new and it starts on the first pull, and runs good, I will change that oil though , also then I know exactly what I have in there

 

I did the same ,
I got a refurbished one on a return. Ran poor.
Had diesel in the fuel tank.
Went thru it, checked everything for tightness,
Hyd fluid was good.
new engine oil, gas plug. Runs great. Honda .

Need to change the tongue jack to one like yours.

I agree with what has been said. I would do two changes to get the old oil out. And use the 10 micron filter. Let's see some pics! And where you live go with the lighter weight or ATF which is essentially hydro fluid with add a gives for trans. What ever u like though.

 

I see the pics. The parts stores take oil yes. Good tip about pull rope retracting ram. And Yea I can see it taking just 5 gallons.

Why not just put the old oil in a bucket and take it to store that way?

 

Just an FYI......Wally's takes used oil and filters.

 

My county does too at waste facilities as does every county in my state.

I positively know Advance auto parts , Orileys, and AutoZone take at least oil as well.

 

We have a local AutoValue that takes oil and I think also filters.
Plenty of ways to recycle that stuff. Wally's will take up to 15 qts. at a time, if I remember right.
