Keith. I have no doubt that you a fantastic job on that hybrid cylinder, but I am happy to see that you will look at that spot one more time to see if its something to be considered or if its just an ugly spot. Is the cylinder aftermarket ?
Oem 460 jug. Im sure its nothing as I ground the heck out of it and kept lookin at it and thinkin how hard it was. I kept tkinkin dang ill knock that shiny spot out but its solid through whatever it is
Okay fellows I was worried so up early and took cylinder off!!! It was hard as a rock and shiny but I took a diamond ball burr and cleaned her up!! Gave me an excuse to take cylinder off and see how things were wearing in anyway!! Thanks for the input, help, and concern fellows!!
Ya I think so. Looks good now plus gave me a chance to look how the rings were wearing on the port edges
Got the Cannon 22" Superbar in and a Oregon CK semi skip square chisel. Will try to make some cuts this week
Very nice work on the Stihl. A member here has a 044 that he wants to rebuild, do you recommend the piston/cylinder upgrade? Could a novice do this work? Thank you. Edit: If base material needs to be removed, no way I'd be comfortable doing/helping.
I run 32" full comp on my self ported 044.............. no problems That hybrid saw wont need any type of skip chain, unless you plan on running lengths greater than 32-36
Its worth the effort no doubt but not for a beginner! The cylinder around the base has to be clearanced on each side as well as each side of the outer transfer housing to clear flywheel and clutch side. Then center the cylinder and work the mounting holes in the cylinder to fit the crankcase mounting holes
