Prolly ain't gonna happen soon. This is just my personal belief but I think the 461 exists as the anti-mtronic saw. It was intro'd well after the mtronic tech was established on the 441, and the 261. It's built on the very familiar 1128 series chassis, rubber AV, and relatively simple to wrench on.

A lot of guys don't like the feel or complexity of the MS441 and the 461 is purpose built to attract their attention IMO.

We did however get ourselves a spring AV, quad ported, non-Strato saw with m-tronic. Enter the MS661!

I'd really like to see something like an MS442, lighter than the 441 with the same power please. Slim the chassis a bit for extra bonus points.

So a max RPM of 12,700 on one 460 and a max RPM of 14,700 on another 460 isn't going to matter?

And as for the sound difference? Would it matter to me? No..

To someone who doesn't know what a screaming saw sounds like?

I only say this because before I owned a Tach, all my saws were about 2,000 RPM below their max. They four stroked hard, but now that I can hear and tune them? At 14,700 my 440 still Four stroked and SquareFile was there to see it. I bet that saw could easily touch 15,000 and still four stroke.

An ear can hear it, a tach confirms it, but a coil can hide all of that...

I'm in the gutted muffler, 460 coil camp.

The stock coil is limited to 13,500.......and the saw works best tuned from 13,800 - 14,000.

The unlimited coil just makes it a breeze to tune.

I do like the 461 coil on a MS660 though. I like those saws tuned right at 13,500.....so the coils makes sense on those saws. I sorta think the advance curve comes on a little quicker too.

Depends on how you get there. If it's the tune/carb holding it back, then yes, it matters for sure. Because the fuel settings are now different. That's why I said this earlier:

There are advantages to the higher RPMs in different situations. I can see it shaving a lil' time from a timed run in a cant race. I can see it being advantageous when using the saw to limb. I'm not saying there is no reason to use the 460 coil, just that it isn't going to affect ultimate engine HP.

I agree Brian, the 460 coil will not change power output.......just make it simpler to tune.

That's actually a major benefit for those of us that repair/modify saws and ship them off to long distances. Ever wish you had a 500 mile long screwdriver?

My 461 should have made it yesterday. . :dex:

If you have a 460 coil? Add that to my return shipping bill. If not, I will order one. Jrsdws has been on the ball and put one on his... He has surpassed me in CAD. :D

The 461 is no doubt worth modding. On dyno it will add about 1.9hp over stock at 10500rpm

Wasn't implying this was the case, the question was more geared to a simple muffler mod or DP muffler cover addition and retune. No porting though...

Mine responded very well in stock form with a mm and dp cover, poly flywheel, advanced timing, 460 coil, and carb limit trimmed

The lean on torque is very apparent after porting though. Well worth the investment
