Non Ethanol 87 or Ethanol 89

What is the better choice for my MS310 and other small engines? Gas station just a few minutes away sells the 87 non ethanol or should I stick with the 89 that contains ethanol.

I will run the 87 non ethanol through generator for sure but not sure what is the gooder option for the 2 cycle saw and weedeater. Input?

 

If it were me, I would choose NON ethanol every time!!

 

Alcohol dissolves 2 stroke oil.
Think ,,,, plowing a bucket of KFC chicken,,,,,, when yur done you use one of those alcohol wipes to majixLEE get all the fryer oil and chicken grease of yur hands.

I used to think that years ago, but about 20 years of of using e-10, regardless of 87, 89, or 91/2/3 octane, in everything from premix 2 strokes, oil injected 2strokes, and all sorts of small and large 4 strokes, has me knowing there really isn't a difference as fuel system parts eventually need to be changed anyway. Jm2¢

 

I have a station that sells 90 octane non-E fuel. I try to use it every time, but the station has weird hours and is a bit out of the way. I would buy that every time if i could.

 

If you have to use Ethanol Gas there are additives that can used. A lot of guys had good suggestions in this thread a few weeks ago.

87 e free is what I run with 89 and 93 available e free also.

 

If non ethanol is available, why not run that?

So u are run in av gas did u have to retune the carb I was thinking about runin av gas but I don't what to hurt my saw.

 

Used to be able to get Av gas from a friend here too. Saws ran great on the high test leaded fuel

 

When I could get E Free, and ran my Civic to work (about 45 miles per day.) It was the difference between filling up once per week (efree) to filling up twice per week (Ethanol added.) It easily made sense to pay the extra (at that time it was $4.25/gallon, around $.50 more per gallon.)

Yes, if you can get ethanol free, by all means, buy it. Just remember that it may not actually be ethanol free. The gas stations have to take the gas that's on the tanker, even if the station says they don't sell e10. Also. Mid grade gas is a mix of premium and regular on site. So, if regular is e10, midgrade has at least some ethanol.

Sorry, I worded that a bit confusing ... On E free I could fill up on Monday and it would last me until next Monday, on regular I had to fill up again by Friday...

 

I am a fan of E10 but do use Efree in my saw mix only because I may have a jug mixed and unused during certain times of the year. I get Efree from a pump that has several different choices pumped through the same hose. Since I usually purchase two gallons at a time I often wonder if I get Efree or if I get the E10 from what's already in the hose and the next customer gets my Efree.
