Really nice pics! I thought your rounds looked great, half seasoned already I bet.. I like your place, it's really beautiful and well maintained too. I have seen a few under the deck systems over the years, looks like you did a nice job with that... Mark
Looks great gboutdoors. Have you considered standing that splitter vertical? It sure makes splitting a lot easier that way.
Almost 2 years with it now, no issues. Very lightweight to move around, lots of workspace (most do not have that! Axel/tires in way). Work from either side (hydro handle in middle), cradles, table add on option for $60. Nothing for splits to fall off on and break, Subaru engine... For under $800 with a coupon at HD, pretty hard to beat. See the other active Log splitter thread...: http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/threads/wood-splitter.9603/page-2#post-238876 Like this?
I have used it vertical on some very large pine rounds up to 42" but usually stay horizontal for the smaller stuff. Was thinking after splitting the other day with a sore back that maybe I should go vertical. Thanks for the reminder I will try it in the morning I even have the milk crate to sit on .
once you get the position down pat, a lot less stress on the back, roll, no bending & lifting. Actually , horizontal is just for towing LOL
Sore back? Most definitely you need to sit and split. Experiment with the height of the seat. I find that lower is better and that is because I can place my elbows on my thighs and lift a lot of the rounds that would otherwise hurt the back. By placing the elbows on the thighs, it makes that work very easy. Milk crate? Definitely put something on top of it else it is very cold to sit on and your butt may end up looking waffled!
Thanks to every one for the compliments on the house and property we just love it here in the woods. Yes that's all Quahog shells in the driveway. Jane and I had a ball planing and then building the new house and land. Cut three nice dead standing red oaks today if you look to the right of the trailer and tractor you can see the rounds on the ground waiting to be picked up. This is on the main hunting/logging trails just behind the house. Bogydave + Backwoods Savage I will split this in the am vertical with a milk carte and cushion.
Machria I like the rig you have there the only thing wrong with it is the color. Not to many downed trees left I cleaned most of them my first year burning because what I had cut and split would not burn. Found out the hard way that I did not know what needs to be done to season wood. Now all I cut is dead standing and with the number of those on our land we should be good it's like having a 10- 15 year plan
"Milk crate? Definitely put something on top of it else it is very cold to sit on and your butt may end up looking waffled! " At my age the butt is already waffled and flat. As Jane would say I have old man -ss nothing there to keep the pants up .
Thanks for the lesson on splitting vertical guys I can't believe how easy this is. Like I said I always did the REALY big rounds but stayed horizontal for the reg. size splits. You can teach an old dog new tricks
looks like gb lives on the wrong side of New Beffid from me but the green trees in an overhead shot here would be a mix of white pine, white cedar, hemlock and/or holly in a Wintertime aerial shot.
White pine and holly only thing in our forested land that's green in the winter. Billb3 I am on your side of NB . East Fairhaven not to far from you at all I think.
What is the gold color? pine shedding needles? Or is that holly dying for the winter? PS, beautiful property!
Nah, I'm on the other wrong side of new beffid, right near UMD. I can see the campus wind generator from my kitchen window if it is turning, which isn't very often.
The white pines shedding. Holly drops the leaves in the spring summer. Billb3 I grew up in the South end of Dart.
