You should call Jamie at Woodstock. Just emailed him today congratulating them on winning the stove challenge.. He's been watching here and thinking the new Real Steel stove might just be what your looking for , heating your big stone castle :) Time will tell once Brian and a few others get their stoves up and running... I'm thinking a massive amount heat on a surprisingly small amount of wood. Controlled cat burn to keep things efficient, maybe some long slow burn times... One thing I really like,,, they seem to have used the same size and location of the cat that is in the Fireview.. That was a proven long term design that worked.. The Fireview sipped wood with that cat so I'm thinking, same location, maybe the same long nicely controlled burn times, but longer with a much bigger box..

Hey brian one more if you could. At its lowest height of 31" whats the distance from the bottom of the stove to the floor? I know you don't have it set to its lowest height but maybe measure the difference holes on the legs and the height you have now and I can do the math. I really want/need this stove when it launches (my VC cannot be trusted at this point) and its going in a tight spot. Thanks for all the info sir!!

I'll measure when I get home from the office. If it's going on a non combustible surface like a stone hearth I would imagine the structural legs could be removed and shortened even more to fit a tight space.

Tom hinted that this stove might only require ember protection but they don't have official results on those tests yet.

That seems promising. Originally, I was hoping the Progress would have been a larger version of the Fireview. Hell, I still really want to like the Progress. Visually, it is awesome. But it does not operate like the Fireview, which is a problem for me.

Exactly, and Woodstock caters to people who are passionate about their stoves, just like Harley caters to passionate riders
...and for the Harley guy who's got everything Harley, underwear, cigarette lighter, potato masher, why not? would look awesome in a Harley man cave.

Thanks Brian for all the pictures and your answers to the questions. One thing I was disappointed with is that a couple of our pictures did not turn out and was hoping someone else got some pictures with the light on the stove. As stated, out pictures did not turn out on this and I think I took two of them too. Perhaps it was my poor picture taking skills. But, just to give you one picture, here is one for you guys to enjoy:

Ok, the lowest part of the stove is the air control damper assembly on the bottom left front side of the stove. Its about 8 1/2 inches from this assembly to the floor with the stove set up at its highest leg setting, so it would be about 4 1/2" with the legs on the lowest setting.

My pleasure Dennis. Great photo of Mrs. Savage with Smokey!

I would have liked to see the stove lamp but it was not on the stove when we were there on Saturday.

Will it run on an 8" pipe?

I believe Brian mentioned he was waiting on a 6" reducer for the stove. So, I think it comes with an 8" collar, unless I am misunderstanding.

I suspect that would be an option because the flue opening is 8".

My Beta stove has a permanent 8" collar, but that is not going to be how the production stoves are made. I am fairly certain that the production stove will have a cast 6" collar that reduces from an 8" opening for improved draft and can be either top or rear vent. See their illustration vs the top of my Beta stove.

Just wondering if the 8" collar was just for testing purposes. I remember the drawing of the cast flue collar.

I assume it will be certified with 6". Just curious, in case someone wanted to replace a BKK someday

What's the deal with the andirons? Seems like at 18" deep with a big wide front door, it wants to be loaded NS?

The andirons can easily be removed and the stove can safely be used without them. They drop down and out of the way for loading.

    Hmmmm...

    From the blog:

New Stove Design for Chris Neufeld

Here’s a design for Chris Neufeld of Blaze King. Chris is a good friend, and we think of Blaze King more as an ally in advocating for high efficiency stoves than as a competitor. Chris is an avid outdoorsman, who hunts and fishes every chance he gets. We tried to combine the two (hunting and fishing) with a salmon-hunting bear, inspired by the image on the Alaska quarter (Chris also loves to visit Alaska).

Chris - “We hope you like this stove, and Lorin won’t even mention the carpel tunnel or resulting workers comp claim from getting all those little cuts in the bear’s fur coat ready for cutting! Here’s a little detail of the fur so you can see what she had to do.” Tom

    Dunno yet. We'll try both.
