Remember folks. These are "average" times. One bad cut (which is what made PS lose) will throw the results. I pushed to hard on the 2nd cut of standard PS. Here are the times. The 1st and 3rd cut of PS were faster. The 2nd cut raised the average to .11 slower. . . That is a tenth of a second. None of your eyes will see that. A half a second is hard to notice by hand.

The PS and PS3 are the same cutter. So using it in a flat cutting style, should yield the same results. Try bore cutting with the PS3 and you'll run into some problems. That extra bump is a killer. LOL..

It's not necessarily faster than PS. There are a LOT of variables in chain testing, especially chain that has been sharpened. However PS3 is very good chain and should be nearly as fast as PS as long as the nose of the bar isn't buried in the cut.

Explain to me the variables once the chain has been sharpened

Both the PS and PS3 in the original videos were untouched. Unless noted that they were square or the one cleaned up round PS.

    I can tell ya...

    Lots.. Lots of variables.

Angles, amount of cutter left, raker height, filed or ground, burrs.

Unless every chain was matched, in which case this thread has been a LONG time in the making.

We are still using human operators for these machines no? :D

Was just stating that 2 chains were not sharpened.

    Are chains with burrs slower?

Wouldn't there be variables in chains off the reel?

Certainly. Factory ground chain isn't 100% consistent. Heck I ve seen cutters that were never sharpened on new chain. Who knows how consistent the actual stampings are either.

Then maybe you should not spread info "especially chain that has been sharpened".

What about the burrs? Maybe I should take the burrs off chains I sharpen before tested.

You and I both know that the burrs get knocked off a freshly sharpened chain the first time it sees wood.

And a chain you filed/ground isn't the same as one I did, or anybody else does. There is no way it's exact if it was done by the human hand. Hence the variablity amongst chain that has been sharpened.

Nobody has ever said that in this thread. We know that's not true.

What are you talking about spreading info? nothing he said is out of line with the truth. once a new chain is filed, there are lots more variables to a chain than off the reel. and the chain test was to keep the variables minimized??!

    We all read things differently.

Freakingstang and MasterMech are now officially on my "Ignore"

I'd be interested in where that was said as well? Because I am wondering?
