Honestly haven't even started cutting with it and already love it. The feel of metal against my skin instead of plastic is a step up in of its own. Feels so much more solid and the controls for the carburetor are far more easily available.:)

Post a picture of your black tag. Saw might be a 61 or a 66! The top cover is not from a 61 (looks to be from a 66) but the starter definitely is from a 61. This kind of stuff happens all the time on older saws, no big deal really just that you need to know what it is before you order parts. The black tag will tell you what saw the factory produced. If it is really a 66 you did good.

Yeah it's a 61 has it etched on the tag. started getting her taken apart today to do some maintenance, not 100% sure but I think it needs a spark plug, other than a good cleaning. Cleaned the air filter as well out of habit and checked the carburetor, getting fuel but I don't have the tool to adjust it right now (needs a thin screwdriver). What do you guys think?

I pulled my 61 out today, it had been a couple of years since I had run it. Compression checked out at 160+ PSI.

Fueled it up and primed the carb. Pulled and pulled and got it to pop. Dribbled some more fuel and pulled and pulled. Switched arms and pulled some more. Eventually got it running and sounded good.

Where can I get a compression tester for a saw? My dad has one for a car but I don't think it would work.

If you are in a rush, your nearby FLAPS will have one. Otherwise you can order on-line (Weedearerman.com, Amazon, etc.). Be sure to get one with a Schrader valve. I got a cheap one at Meijer for $30 and found a Snap-On at a local pawn shop for $35.

FLAPS = Friendly Local Auto Parts Store

You must have an Advance Auto, O'Reilley's, Auto Zone, etc. in the area.

After a tune up the saw runs great! The chain needs a sharpening desperately though.

Ya done good buddy! You will definately like that old saw, better built than saws of today. I did notice that it does have the two component ignition system on it. Should it fail you can get an AM replacement from HLSProParts.com.

Thanks for the heads up Leo. I may order the part just to have it on hand so I don't have to redneck-engineer something. Here's the old girl on the table getting her sharpening. -Hopefully- will have a video of it cutting tomorrow.:D 2014-11-17 22.48.24.jpg

But if it works now there is no reason to replace it.
