Picco is the Stihl name for low profile chain. It is also 3/8, but a lot smaller than 3/8 standard chain. It is made to run on small mount Stihl bars (but there were a few large mount Stihl and Logosol Picco bars available for a short time, particularly on the 024 saw). I use Carlton low profile chains on my Picco bars, and they are semi chisel non-safety (non safety low profile chain is not available from Stihl).

In picco, there are two types from Stihl, a narrow kerf 0.043 and 0.050. The NK stuff is for the really small saws, like the 171 and 181, and the electric ones. These Picco/low profile chains are available from Stihl:

    PMM3, 0.043 NK semi-chisel, safety
    PM3, 0.050 semi chisel safety
PS3, 0.050 full chisel safety (new & hard to find)

Comfort? That is an odd name for a saw chain.

Ok so if I get 33RM chains, I will get a chain that will cut pretty quickly yet will hold an edge better if I get into some debris. 33RM72 for the 20" bar and 33RM84 for the 25." Is this correct?

The sizes you have picked out are correct for semi-chisel, yes. Though you might want to add an RS72 for the 20 for clean wood cutting. Theya re considerably faster. Also having a backup loop is nice when you are cutting. Also having the two bars will be nice in case you pinch a bar. With an inboard clutch, simply remove the power head, pop on the other bar, and cut out the pinched B&C. Try that with an outboard clutch saw!?

Comfort, yes, They dropped the C in the chain designators in the last several years, but the chains are still called comfort for having lower vibration. Its a lost in translation thing I think.

Don't worry about spare loops, I like having several in the case. Got six with the ms250, I a picked one or two up every payday until I got as many as I wanted on hand.

And yep, I will get some RS72 loops for cutting in the woods or if I come across some large caches of clean wood at the dump.

Yep. I have a lot of loops, and 2x as many bars as I have saws.

Its much easier to grab another saw. If you don't have one it gives you the perfect excuse to get one! :)

    And now I'm missing smileys:(

I always remove the power head though, even if I have another saw to cut it out with. Murphy is ever-present.

Got the 25" bar, matching chains in full and semi chisel. Oh, and a full chisel 20" chain. (I own that stump, but I did not make that stump). image.jpg

I expected someone to bust my chops about it. My brother and his Poulan Pro did that one.

Ahhh, he's one of those? Don't need a quality saw. Does he run used motor oil in it as well?

I'm just messing with you/him all the way around!

He has a quality Poulan from the 70s or so, was my Dad's back in the day. The Pro is his backup.

I just put a Meteor into an 034Super. I may have some clutch issues (chain spinning a bit), but so far she's pretty awesome.

looking good. Looks a lot like my stumps. Not saying I'm perfect or anything.

But when my cousin and I use to cut he had a jacked up hinge that he cut closer to ground. I would cut like a round or two up when I felled a tree so that I then could go back and flush cut the stump.
