Are either of you any good at electrical troubleshooting and have a meter? Unplug the connector to the solenoid stick probes in the slots and set to voltage - test run again, if no voltage is present one of the interlocks is preventing the fill valve from opening. Look around in the back of the machine there may be a schematic in a plastic pouch - if not the specific model would be helpful.
Thank you for all the fantastic advice. I now know more about dishwashers than I care to I carefully checked (then rechecked) all the suggestions above plus a few things I found on the internet without success. I think I have isolated it to the solenoid.... Waiting til Monday to sched service call. LOL I talked with gals that normally could have scheduled a call for me but there are not Sears techs in my area
Sorry it couldn't have been something you could fix. I love the satisfaction of fixing things myself. Got my leaf blower going again this weekend. Felt good!! Good luck, Josh
I think we may have a meter packed "somewhere" in the garage that is inaccessible, and neither of us really know how to use it. We used it 20 years ago for something on either the 79' or 81' blazer and have not touched it since. I feel confident after watching youtube videos that I could use it correctly but its not worth driving into town to buy one, if it is bad the part will have to be ordered and shipped, (small town). Thank you for the kind step by step advice!
I was transferred to GE Consumer Affairs after no response to find a tech within the 48 hours. The gal sent a new solenoid that should be here Friday and reimburse up to $200 for repair (too bad I already ordered one from ebay...). Our electrician for the remodel will be here Friday too to hook up some appliances and said he would test the solenoid. Cool! I can't do dishes by hand anymore and we are tired of paper plates. Most of all, I want a real coffee mug!!
Can you suggest a meter to buy? I have amazon prime. Browsing now and I don't know enough to buy a good one.
For standard things around the house there are a good number of reasonable options. I use mostly Fluke instruments and the T5-1000 is a good handy digital meter - it's a good quick check meter will read current, voltage, resistance. It's drawback is troubleshooting continuity(resistance) the maximum reading it can read is 1000 ohm's before it shows "Open/OL" If you were checking coil continuity(resistance) in a solenoid to see if it were good/bad it would show "open/OL" if the coil is truly toast, or may return a fair reading. I'm partial to yellow cased electrical tools and wouldn't want you to spend a bunch of money on something you'd rarely use - there are a whole bunch of DVM's(digital voltage meters)
Thanks!! I need to learn how to use one. We have other appliances that will need repairs too, and "authorized" repairmen are sparse. Going for it.

The T-5 600 may be a better (more practical) option - your probably not going to see anything close to 1000V in homeowner application, same meter just rated to 600V - less $50 http://www.amazon.com/Fluke-T5-600-...8&qid=1412858539&sr=1-1&keywords=fluke+t5-600
Reminds me of the 4.99 china mart special meter my Dad had. Didn't seem to be working. I stuck the probes in an outlet to check for 120v and the thing blew up in my hands. I guess something inside it has shorted out.
Electrician came today for last few things. They gave me a quick&dirty on my new Fluke. I got the part replaced and its now on its first cycle!!
Good news is the washer is "running". Not so good, cannot locate the source of water in the pan, (similar to the defrost pan in a fridge). It has leak detection so wont run again..... I dried the water in the pan and strategically placed folded paper towels wrapped around the connections we worked with rofl: :lol. Ran two cycles so far an no leak. Going to push it back under the counter again tonight and check it again in the morning. I wonder if its residual water left in the pan from trouble shooting 2 nights ago that was in the bottom pan the bottom of the pan til we screwed in the counter hangers?, crossing fingers, the "strategic" papertowel wraps are dry Bad News: I did all my trouble shooting in dim light...............I waited till night when the lil one was asleep and the DIMMERS Jack Straw were low to avoid distraction. This is what I found yesterday in daylight after running my first load overnight. Are you kidding me? This was delivered in July and unboxed from factory 1.5 weeks ago. Humidity here is maximum 40% rarely, but usually in teens... Sent an email to the consumer relations gal that sent me the new part since there are no authorized techs nearby. Obviously from shipping overseas...wish me luck, the larger stains have already pitted the stainless....
emailed these pics to GE. They sent citric acid cleaner. Running it now but I fear it will just open up the pits in the tub? WOW I regret buying this dishwasher.
Point of stainless is it isn't supposed to rust like that- but that doesn't mean the frame work behind isn't- which indicates leakage. So hard to get anything now days that is even close to quality for any amount of money.
