I found a good deal on the Simpson Rope Winch. Previous owner had purchased this several years ago and never used it except once a couple of years back for about 10 minutes of run time. He then drained the fuel and put it back on the shelf. The oil looked pristine so I tend to believe him. I put fuel in it after I got home and the little Honda motor coughed on the second pull with the choke and then one pull without the choke and it was purring. Lighter weight than my PCW 5000, but I think it will be capable for some lighter log pulls on the homestead.
Looks like a handy lil bugger...we have a 1" water pump with that lil Honda on it, works really well. Wonder what that thing is rated for? I have kinda been looking for a capstan winch for a log hauling/wood processing rig that I've been mulling over building...only thing I've seen locally was $3500 or so...but it had 1000' of rope too, so probably not a bad deal considering that its supposedly new/unused...but that's still above my self imposed budget
This is rated for 2,000 lbs straight pull. This can be increased with the addition of pulleys. Rope size is 3/8”. Portable Winch Company makes similar units in different sizes. A video I made when I first got a PCW 5000. Pulling a pretty good sized log. I was straining on the rope a bit but didn’t realize at the time another wrap on the capstan would have helped a lot.
